Hello! I wanted to see if anyone has any experience with the field of aesthetic/dermatological/plastic surgery nursing? Does this field require an NP degree? And how can you get your foot in the door to work in such a setting? I am currently a new grad orienting on a med surg floor in New York but plan to move to California sometime next year

thank you!

I work in the OR and have circulated in plastic surgeries (breast implants, breast reduction, tummy tuck, liposuction, etc). The surgeon's assistant was an acute care nurse practitioner.

I don't know exactly what you would like to do, but you don't have to get extra schooling if you just wanna circulate in a plastic surgery.

Thank you for for your response! May I ask what state you work in? Because I know some states are better for plastic surgery and dermatology than others. Also I would like to possibly start off circulating but assisting the doctor would be nice too! I'm a new grad and currently am on orientation at a local community hospital on a med surg floor and I absolutely hate it! I knew I didn't want to work in a hosptial setting while I was in school but everybody told me to do one year in a hosptial so that is why I applied. But I see myself working in like an outpatient type of surgical facility for plastic surgery and I'm just curious as to what steps I need to take to get into something like that. I am planning to move to California within the next year. Thank you!
