Backround and drug tests...............

So both just came back clean...phewww...no just kidding, I knew it would. Although, do they not look for speeding tickets? That was the ONLY thing I had on my record and it didn't come up on my backround check? It was in a different state, but I had to list all the states I lived in the past 7 years and Maine was one of them (where I got the speeding ticket)

Also about the drug test, when I went in I noticed they didn't ask if I was taking any meds at all. I guess they didn't test for that because the drug test came back and they tested for all street drugs like cocaine, pot etc. I am not taking any prescription meds but was just surprised by this.

One last gripe about the backround check. I don't know if this uis standard for nursing schools (I am going to be a new student soon) but I had to pay or my backround check from a local place here in San Diego that you need to go through if your going to nrusing school. Well, I'm filling out all the info, and granted my husband is in the Navy and we have moved 4 times in 7 years so I knew I was going to have to pay the highest amount (they go by how many countuies you resided in the last 7 years) so I'm like well what other choice do I have. So then I'm getting all ready to pay at the end and in bright letters is say IF YOY HAVE LIVED IN ANY ONE OF THESE STATES IN THE LAST YEARS THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL FEE... and then lists the fees. Of the the 5 states there Maine just HAD to be one of them. So because I lived in Maine in the last 7 years I have to pay an additional $42 dollars. New York was higher I think $50 or so...

LOL!!! So anyway, it's all done, everything is taken care of and I start school soon!!!!

Usually they'll overlook traffic violations (including speeding tickets) as long as they were minor and not felonies.

Yea that what I thoght! Awesome..I'm clean as a whistle!! When you are hired on somewhere do you also have to pay for your drug test and backround check, or is this just for nursing school?

My background check was similar. It asked me to list the states and counties I have resided in for the last 7 years. I did that. Then I got a call from the background check company. The gentleman was asking about address from when I was 18. So, I asked why he was going further back than 7 years and he told me that the 7 years was a timeline to establish the correct identity??? He also said its company policies to go back to the time the subject turned 18. Anyways…it cost me another 25.00 because I lived in a different county then. Ohhh and I also asked how he knew my addresses; he told me he ran all three of my credit reports for past addresses AND there are some databases they check from when I had utilities put in my name. Talk about Big Brother watching…not that it’s bad, we need to be sure with who we allow to take care of patients.

When I was hired, I didn't pay for the drug test...I did have to pay for the background check ($30); they told us up front that the fee would be deducted from our first check. And yes, I had a speeding ticket and I came through the check fine :)

i think there are times when all you can do is shake your head and think to yourself, "what the heck" (or something...) and laugh about it since you passed and got in.

students around here do not pay - rather, it is in with their tuition so they are not AWARE they are paying.

When I applied to nursing school there were two options for the background check- either the state (you had to have lived in Ohio for the last 5 years) or the FBI check. I had to do the FBI since we are military and have not lived here for five years. The FBI check was $75 I think. I had to do it again when I applied for my license.

If those extra fees got you ruffled, just you wait! Not including tuition- my 1st semester's books and supplies are, so far, $1200! (I hear the 1st costs the most- phew!) Congratulations on your acceptance!
