I currently work a 12hr night shift -part-time in a Children's hospital--we have mandatory sign-ups for availability (sounds like mandatory overtime)--well full time staff does 24hrs but it is sometimes in 4hr-times-- it is crazy--you can be working many days in a row----what does the rest of the hospitals do??
I would love some feedback about this practice--our hospital says that it is not illegal because with Shared Governance--we decided to do this-to prevent us from floating to other nursing units---well I never signed on for this practice when I was hired many years ago----

1) It is not clear what "mandatory sign ups" are.
2) If your union agreed to a Shared Governance provision at some point, that means they will not back you if you challenge it.
