Any nurses with Pacemakers?

:redbeatheHi! I was just wondering if there were any nurses or nursing students who have pacemakers? Are there any specific things that you cannot do? I know working around an MRI is out of the question, but since I have not worked in a hospital before wasn't sure if there was anything else. Thank you!!!

Hi Dreams2BeRN,

I have a pacemaker! I am actually starting nursing school next month, so I am also curious to find out if there is any other limitations besides staying away from MRIs. My doctor doesn't seem to think that there would be. I get so excited when I meet someone that has a pacemaker too (especially if they are under 80)! :w00t:

Are you in school now?

My friend had one implanted during nursing school. She was under 30 I think. She didn't seem to think there would be a whole lot she couldn't do.

I have and ICD. The only thing I can not have is an MRI. There is no other limitations for me.

Thank you for your replies!!!

Stellagirl, it is nice to find someone in the same boat. I am finishing up my last couple of classes, and will be starting Nursing School in August. I can't imagine how excited you are to be starting in a month! Good luck in starting your journey!!!

Not me, but my DH has one. It doesn't prevent him from doing anything except MRIs, which he never liked anyway. If anything, he feels about 500% *better* now than he did pre-pacemaker.
