Any Nursing Auditors out there? I have a job interview soon for a nurse auditor position. I "think" I know what the job would be but I sure would love some insight. Any regrets or concerns that I sould be "warned" about?

What does a nurse auditor do?

That's my question too! Here's a what I found:

"We’re looking for a motivated RNs and LPNs. This position has NO Patient care involved. Put your clinical skills and experience to work.

We will train you to perform medical chart audits. "

Sounds like this job may be to review charting done by nurses to see if charting has been done properly. That's just what I'm guessing.

Specializes in ICU, nutrition.

In preparation for our TJC accreditation survey, we had several nurses, both bedside and other disciplines like case management, auditing charts to make sure we were in compliance with NPSGs, mainly physicians signing off verbal/telephone orders. They were picking up extra shifts for OT or doing that instead if they were called off for low census.

We really had to arm-twist some of our docs to sign charts in a timely manner and I guess my hospital didn't want to get dinged.

I'm not sure you'd be reviewing nursing notes, etc, per se, probably orders/progress notes for compliance issues. I think they like nurses because it's less of a learning curve for medical terminology.

Sounds interesting. Good luck.

Specializes in M/S, MICU, CVICU, SICU, ER, Trauma, NICU.

It will be an excellent experience and you'll be able to reflect on how many people DON'T chart properly.

It's an eye-opener.
