I am a full time mom right now who is very anxious to go back to school. I have looked into Pacific College and Stanbridge University and am stuck right now which school to go to. I need feedbacks from graduates of these school or any students who are enrolled in their LVN program. I have seen negative postings about Pacific College here at one point but couldn't find it now. Stanbridge just started 2 years ago that is why I'm hesitant to go there but their program seems to be good and they also had a 100% pass rate last year. Please help!!!

Hi Anxious LVN,

I AM A GRADUATE OF PACIFIC COLLEGE. I TRANSFERRED TO PACIFIC FROM STANBRIDGE IN 2007 DUE TO THE VERY POOR TRAINING THAT I FELT I WAS RECEIVING AND DUE TO THE TEACHERS CHANGING EVERY OTHER DAY (AT LEAST IT FELT LIKE IT!). I WAS EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH MY TRAINING AT PACIFIC AND WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. I HAVE PASSED THE NCLEX AND KNOW THAT MANY OF THEIR GRADUATES PASS AS WELL. THEY HAVE A VERY GOOD PASS RATE AND PACIFIC HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME, SO MANY STUDENTS HAVE TAKEN THE TEST WHO HAVE GONE TO PACIFIC. I REALLY DON'T THINK VERY MANY STUDENTS FROM STANBRIDGE HAVE EVEN TAKEN THE NCLEX! THEY ARE TOO NEW TO REALLY BE REPRESENTED AT 100%!

Hello,

I think you will see in a previous post that I expressed my overall satisfaction with Pacific College. I did see some negative posts here, but they were from a very small sampling of people and really did not represent the many students that have graduated throughout the years. It's a great school and does have a great reputation in the medical community.

I will never be sorry that I chose Pacific College. I have a wonderful future ahead of me in the nursing field and I have to give them much credit for it.

oh thank you so much!!! It's hard talking to admission reps since most of the time they will not tell you what you need to know. Best way to find out is to talk to graduates who will be honest in telling their experience. They won't even answer the percentage of the enrollees who dropped out or finished but didn't take the NCLEX. Thank you again. Btw, are you bridging to RN? If yes did you have any problem transferring your credits to the new school? Thanks again for the post it is a big help. . .you just don't know :)

Thank you for the postings. I did look at the past postings of Lakes9 and they are eye openers and I can say that I feel better choosing Pacific College over the other school. Sometimes it's just hard to choose when they try to lure you with laptop, a pda and other material things that is included with the tuition fee :D but when you ask about drop outs, enrollees, # of people who took the nclex, etc - oh i don't have the numbers with me.

Wish me luck

Hi There,

I definitely would recommend Pacific. Seems like a few people are complaining because they just didn't want to study or make the effort.

Many of the complaints are from a few years ago? I have a hard time believing what they say! NOT my experience!

Good Luck!

I am a graduate of Stanbridge College. Our school has had a 100% pass rate since its inception. It is true that the school is relatively new when it comes to its nursing program, but the program remains one of the best in Orange County. Students from multiple other LVN programs have attempted to transfer to Stanbridge but most have failed to pass even the simplest of entrance exams. Those students that do make it into the program, after transferring from other schools, historically have failed to live up to Stanbridge's high academic requirements and have either dropped out due to poor study habits or have had to repeat semesters. Most of the students at Stanbridge have completed the necessary prerequisites to enter RN programs which explains the ability to pass the entrance exams, successfully complete the program with high academic marks, pass the NCLEX the first time, and transition into community college RN programs with ease. This school also has some of the best clinical hospital internships of any private vocational nursing school, and unlike its competitors, the students at Stanbridge have clinical sites that are local and do not necessitate the need to drive long distances. This is an important consideration for single students, especially mothers who are on limited incomes, considering the cost of gasoline. I highly recommend this school.

Hi!

I just received notification from allnurses.com that you had responded to my previous post. I can appreciate your rave review of your college. I think all of us that have done well at a college feel great about it. I still feel that Pacific College ranks way above Stanbridge in many ways. The college has had the nursing program since 1996 and has increased its student base considerably thoughout the years. It's a strong, solid college that has demonstrated consistency in giving the students what they need to pass the NCLEX each year. We all have our own opinion, but I feel that Pacific is the best!:yeah:

If you are keeping abreast of what is going on in all the private post secondary schools you would be aware that there is a mass exodus of instructors leaving your school. Many of them have applied for Stanbridge but have not been hired do to their inexperience with computer technology techniques used by most colleges and universities now. Word on the street is that the current DON is a micromanager...very much into total control to the point of writing all the exams with little acknowledgement or input from her instructors. Hence the mass exodus. Word on the street is also that the current full time class has 3 students left. Inability to retain students should be a red flag.

not all of the private schools are accredited. some are just authorized as technical schools but do not award college credit. pacific is hands down the better school, also angeles institute in lakewood is really good. i have had two co workers that taught at stanbridge-past tense....they are good nurses felt they had to leave. i work at a facility where angeles does clinicals and there students are being well trained. i was a pacific student and they were good to me. work hard good luck. hope this helps.

Hi Nrs2Doc, you have given great advice and info regarding this topic and I will be attending Stanbridge later this year. I agree everyone is entitled to their opinions and I think its great that everyone is putting their own input in. Just my two cents is that no matter what school any of us are going to, private or public, our educational success will come down to one person and that is ourselves and in the end, we are all going to sit down and take the same board exam.

So to all the future & current nursing students, I applaud you and wish you all the best & success in your studies whatever school you may attend because the silver lining will be indeed a rewarding career with vast opportunities and experiences. Study hard (I know I will!) and do well in your program.

Thanks again to Nrs2Doc for your insight and just for my own personal reason, I do believe Stanbridge is the best choice for me, not only for location, scheduling & program length, as I have to take these all into consideration since I am a mommy & wife. Best wishes to all!!!:yeah:
