ADN to MSN program

Published

Hello,

I graduated with ADN at a local community college. I have passed my nursing board and have started working in a hospital setting recently.

I would like to further my studies in nursing. Is there such thing as an ADN to MSN program for CNS or NP? What schools would offer such program?

OR is it more beneficial if i take RN to BSN to MSN which I think could be more expensive?

Any government help or assistance for someone taking graduates program?

Thanks for your help.

UNC-Chapel Hill offers a distance RN-MSN. They have a great program, but due to budget cuts they now only offer RN-MSN. They no longer off a RN-BSN.

They do want you to have one year of bedside experience before applying though.

I am sure there are other programs that offer something similar.

A lot of schools in my area offer RN-MSN. Just check our the schools in your area. Some of them lead to a NP/CNS and others just give you the core classes and you then do a post-masters to become a NP/CNS. Your employer should offer some sort of tuition reimbursement to help out with the costs as well.

Most primary care based MSN programs are online and allow you to arrange your clinicals in your hometown area.

I am considering this route as well since my long time dream has been to become and orthopedic NP. My main concern is that I do not thing that you will be able to get government grants like the Pell if you are in a graduate program. I don't know this for a fact, though. I would research the schools that most interest you and then contact the financial aid office to see what types of aid you may qualify for.

ECU also has a great online RN to MSN program, BTW. For me, it will be between ECU, UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke. Good luck!

Some schools that have an online ADN to MSN (FNP) bridge program are Graceland University and Frontier School of Midwifery.
