ACLS online or hands on? need advice

hello-

I need to ACLS certified ASAP. I am tring to get a new job in a different hospital, my interview is on Monday. HAving ACLS would help me get a new job. Is there a big difference between getting certified online vs hands on from the hospital point of view? Any help would be greatly appreciated :):confused:

I have seen one job posting where they specifically stated that they did not accept the online version. Keep in mind that even with the online version, you still have to go somewhere to have the hands on portion of the test, so you have not really accomplished much by taking the written test online.

I recertified both ACLS and PALS online, then my employer wouldn't accept them. I was out over $700! Seems like having us take online courses is only good when it's convenient for the hospital.:down:

Also depends if it was an AHA course. Even the AHA online/CD ACLS requires that you come in and do a hands-on mega code. Can't imagine paying $700 for ACLS and PALS-the most I have seen for a 2-day PALS or ACLS is $150 for initial (not renewal) course.

Most places only have classes every few months and don't always allow non-employees.

Just say that you have an ACLS class planned for such and such a date so they will know that it is just a matter of time and you have already booked.

Why do you feel that having ACLS will help you land the job? I know there have been posts here that recommend it, but I disagree. I don't think it will matter one way or the other and is a waste of your money IMO. Your employer will get you trained for ACLS and anything else you will need on their dime, and will pay you an hourly wage for taking the class.

As for online vs hands on, you should not take it online line if you've never had it before. Plus, many employers will not accept it.
