a small dilemma...

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am working with a nurse who is on light duty for a torn muscle in her shoulder and supposedly can't do too much of anything, not even type on the computer, so her five monthly nursing summaries were given to other nurses to do on top of the ones they already have. She has been seen on the computer and when you log on, you always see the person who has used the computer prior to you. Many times I have logged on and her name was there as the person who used it before me. My question is, If she can't do her monthly summaries and other computer related work but has been seen on the computer, then would you refuse to do her monthly summaries? I mean what's fair is fair.

I believe I would get folks together and have a long talk with The Powers That Be- Tell what you know/see and express concerns over doing her work on top of own You know your own folks so you know how far you can throw a fit and how far higher ups will back you, but somebody needs to know!! In the the mean time, what goes around comes around.

Does this person try to weasle out of work on a regular basis? If so I would definetly not do her work for her. Either way I would say to her, I noticed that you are logging onto the computer so I guess your injury is healed enough to do your own typing. If she denies it bring it up with a manager.

Have you seen her? Anyone could log on with her name, to cause trouble. Keep your password secure.

I haven't seen her, but other people have.

YES! ABSOLUTELY REFUSE!!!

I, myself, am recovering from a severe right shoulder injury which is why I am not working right now. There is absolutely no way I would return to nursing UNLESS I could carry my own weight. That person is deliberately taking advantage of the situation and staff! She should be reported! Even with my shoulder injury, I can type, so therefore would not consider her injury as one that should prevent her from a little 'tap tap' on the computer each day. She needs to be confronted with her lies and dealt with immediately! THE NERVE OF SOME PEOPLE!!!

Today I confronted the AHN on this one. Her reply was , "I've confronted her about this already." (ie) "What are you doing on the computer?" answer: "I...ugh...well...I...umm..." Me to AHN: "So why can't she hit the "X" on the template for the Monthly summaries?" AHN: "I can only go by the guidelines THEY give me." In other words, if they say she can not be assigned any computer work, then she can't be assigned any computer work.

BUT, she can drive to work, and sneak going on the computer.

I'll see what the HN says next week...she's on vacation this week.

But I swear, next month I'm not going to do that extra summary of hers...AHN will have to assign it to someone else. I'm NOBODY'S D@mn FOOL!!!

We've all worked with this sort of person at one time or another... They use any excuse they can to get out of as much work as possible and don't care if it's at your expense or not! What exactly can she do that she is still at work doing if she can't even punch a few buttons on the computer? Was this injury job related? say to her, "If you're not supposed to be on the computer then stay OFF the computer!" The bottom line is that most doc's will write what you tell them to write on that excuse! If you think she's messing with you then stand up to her, confront her about being on the computer and tell her it makes you and the others greatly resentful for having to do her work when she is on there playing around!

I say wait for her in the parking lot and open up a can of whoop-a$$. Then tell her "there's your monthly summary".*

*I'm not serious but I HAVE had this fantasy before.
