I saw the clip and found it a bit off base, but not offensive. The Doc's watching the program could get upset too because she asked the M.D what type of Lexus he drove and commented on him driving him home. M.D'S could get offended because their job is not to drive pt's home and they all don't drive expensive cars and live materialistic lives. So I wasn't offended at the nurse sitting there. I assumed people would see the unrealisticness of the medical profession protrayed there and get a good laugh over it. Nurses now a days don't even dress like that. On the other hand Ellen was hilarious as she usually is. Everytime I watch her I laugh, hard. Her dry wit is refreshing. She is a compassionate, funny, and brave person, and dare I say I think she beats Oprah W. Ohhh I'm gonna get flamed over that coment! I am a strong believer in promoting our image as nurses though. TV shows like Grays irk me because the R.N has no real role and Doc's do jobs that they never do in real life. I would like to boycott them!:lol2: Good luck every one!

I just love her...she is hilarious...I was not offended and consider myself to "stand up for myself" when warranted. ;)

On vacation and did not find any issue with it; of course, just saw the part where the dogs were being brought out for adoption. Did see the nurse there and thought nothing of it. And she was writing on something during that time. Did not see the physician.

When have you last seen a nurse wearing white and wearing a cap at the same time?

There was nothing mean being said, or done. So no one is permited to satire something? She is a comedian, and she does comedy. There was nothing done in bad taste.

No stripper was dressed up as a nurse and then undressing from a scanty uniform. No cigar company having the staff dress up as nurses, as they did in the country where I used to live.

There are many more things to get concerned with, at least in my opinion. Such as the rubber bullets being shot out yesterday at protesters in LA, or the behavior of some that required it. These are things to be concerned with.

I like Ellen. She was acting silly and clueless as usual. That's just her humour. I like her because she is not cruel or vulgar. I hate it when we are protrayed as nymphomaniacs or bimbo handmaidens.

We all have to become conscious of when we (nurses) are being put down and we need to take a stand.

OP, just start a mail campaign and those who are interested and aware will join in.

Personally, I can't stand Ellen (it's the way she pronounces things) and I could not find the video on her website but if you were offended, do start the campaign. You don't need anyone else to stand with you but some will.

tridil, if you are offended then stand up for your self...that is the way that changes are made..if don imus had made a remark in the '40s no one would have said a protesting word

i didn't see it i got burned out on talk shows a long time ago and i couldn't tell you the last time i saw one except for an occasional larry king..absolutely no daytime talk shows and i couldn't get the clip to run

i have a puny puter

let us have enough respect for each others opionion to listen with an open mind

one of the things that also differentiates this from gray's anatomy and the like, is that i know they do not portray nurses right, and i choose not to watch those shows because of that.

i never expected this portrayal out of left field with ellen.

thanks for the support some of you have shown. i emailed ellen's show already.

I was not offended at all. My concern is if we make a stink over something like this, we will not at all be taken seriously when something serious occurs that is in fact offensive to all nurses.

It was a joke. Ellen also gave nurses a shout out as well. I found it kind of amusing that the MD stayed at her house and helped her to the bathroom!

Really... We need to pick our fights and this is not it. Ellen is great!

what message does this send to the potential nurses who view the show who are working so hard to get into school right now? it's not just ellen. nursing's image has suffered for a long time. imo, it's bc we let it.

.

While I respect your feelings i must disagree. The message that you are sending is that nurses are so sensitive and thin skinned, no one on TV better portray one at all lest they get it wrong or offend one. We are going to be viewed as a bunch of whiny cry babies instead of strong, powerful professionals.

We need to know when to laugh at ourselves, its truly ok once in a while.

Lets save the indignation for when its well deserved. JMO.

Couldnt agree with you more!! It doesnt hurt to laugh right along on occasion as like others have said, she is a comedian and have also heard her speak highly of nurses in the past. Personally I like her and wasnt offended. I think there are other things that need to have our anger as nurses expended. This isnt one of them.

I saw that and was not offended at all...personally I think that is how it should be....me doing a crossword puzzle and the doc doing all the talking LOL

I love Ellen's show!

I really take more offense to the celebraties that say how they go great one to one care, never had to ask for anything, because in our society, they get the VIP treatment, usually in a VIP suite/floor while the rest of the Joe Smoes get the usual.
