(Question) Diploma that compliments Nurse Practitioner

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello!

I recently finished university and am now a fully qualified registered nurse. I am currently dabbling in the different areas of nursing and gaining experience, but I ultimately hope to become a Nurse Practitioner (though i'm not sure what I want to specialize in yet) :) Before this though, I am considering doing an online diploma whilst working :) Do you know of any diplomas that would compliment the role of a nurse practitioner (that would stand out on a resume)? I have been thinking of either a diploma of Business Administration or of Leadership and Management. Please tell me what you think would be best, or if you have any other ideas :)

Ps. Sorry, this is my first time posting anything :p

Thanks

Are you in the US? Because you are asking about a diploma and I think you really mean degree? In which case, spending time and money earning another degree before concentrating on graduate school to earn an MSN to become a nurse practitioner doesn't make much sense.

Ah, sorry, i'm in Australia :p Here, to become a Nurse Practitioner you first need to complete a bachelor of nursing, which I have done. You then, after having completed a couple years worth of experience (which I am doing), you go back to university and complete a master of nursing (nurse practitioner). While I am gaining experience in the work force (which I will be doing for at least a couple years) I want to gain a diploma, which is lower than a degree, and that you can do online :) Sorry, I hope this makes sense.

It makes sense now :)

In the US, there is no diploma for completing college programs, they are degrees. Looks like you have another step in there somewhere. I guess if you have the available funds and time, it wouldn't hurt to do the diploma thing while waiting until you can get into the master's program. Sorry I have no idea what kind of diploma or program you should look at as I don't know the market situation in Australia. Hope someone has more help!
