Hello!
I've taken General Chemistry I this semester (Spring 2015), and I've managed to pass the course with an A. Honestly, I was afraid that I might struggle in this course due to my horrible tendency to slack back in high school (which earned me a D in my chemistry course). So I'm happily relieved to somehow miraculously earn an A in a college-level course in chemistry despite my weak background!
However!
I do have a concern. I feel like I've managed to pass the course based on straight memorization, although I passed each chapter test with flying colors as I took the time to understand the material. Once the final exam came around, though, I found that I could hardly recall the material that I had feverishly studied for. To be really, really honest; I guessed on the majority of that final exam and "somehow" ended up with an A. Seriously, talk about good luck... maybe.
I've kept my notes and any lecture video given to me throughout the span of the course, and I even kept both the lab manual and lecture textbook for reference. Now the nursing programs I'm interested in joining, they only have General Chemistry I as a prerequisite rather than both General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II. So here are my questions, basically:
How important is understanding chemistry within a nursing program? More specifically, what do you know or believe would be the typical chemistry topics that are brought up within a nursing program?
How important is understanding chemistry in regards to the NCLEX?
Do you feel as though General Chemistry II should be taken, or would I suffice with only General Chemistry I under my academic belt?
Just in case this information is needed, the nursing program I am thinking of applying for (within the distant future) is: https://www.umc.edu/Education/Schools/Nursing/Traditional_BSN/Traditional_BSN_Home.aspx
I'll be taking General Biology I for the summer semester along with Microbiology within the fall semester. I plan on taking Human Anatomy & Physiology I and Human Anatomy & Physiology II during the summer semester of 2016. For now, though, I'm just incredibly happy to have General Chemistry over and done with!
Any advice, constructive criticism, or recommendations are appreciated!

You will need to understand acids and bases. Additionally, knowing the formulas for certain chemical processes can be extremely useful (such as why increases in CO2 levels correlate with increases in H+). I feel like apart from that, chemistry has not really had a strong present throughout my curriculum. Biology and A&P are probably more of a concern :)
That certainly isn't bad at all, I'm glad I saved some lecture videos that my professor made regarding acids and bases! Hopefully I'll actually retain the information that I learn from my General Biology I and Human A&P I-II classes, haha. Thanks for the input!
