Has anyone heard back about acceptance to the summer SUMMER LPN session starting on May 17th?

has anyone heard back about acceptance to the summer summer lpn session starting on may 17th?

i did not know there was a summer program... i just applied during the april 2010 turn-in period!

i think it's new. i applied in october and just got an email about it last week. only had one day to reply if interested - last tuesday.

"we currently have spaces available in this program and you, because of your current status on the waiting list, may be offered placement."

wow, congratulations! i wish i would get an email like that!

Thanks! Hopefully I'll hear something official soon.

I think, based on the start date, this is the program I'm in. It's a group of laid-off workers sponsored by the city of Phoenix, and funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act "ARRA". It was only lightly publicized, and we were told there were 20 slots, and 100+ applicants - They let 25 of us take the CNA course at Phoenix college.

The program is the first of it's kind in Phoenix, and one of only a handful in the country. The city got Phoenix college to create a CNA course for us, (since it's a prerequisite for the fast-track LPN program) and Gateway pretty much made a program that starts May 17th, and ends in December. They've given us a tentative schedule, and it's all over the place for classes - some classes are at night and afternoons over the summer, then day classes in the fall - clinicals are expected to be 12 hour days, with some of us going on Saturdays, but that hasn't been finalized as of yet.

Our group had its last CNA lecture today, and our last clinicals will be either tomorrow or Friday. The practicums are Monday and Tuesday of next week, and the finals for the class are next Wednesday. Obviously, our cohort is at a turning point - failing the written test or the Practicum will mean they don't move on. We've also got some students who may drop out due to losing their unemployment, childcare, a couple students have to re-take the HESI, etc.

I don't know how many students are in a "normal" cohort - it seems like at least 30 should be allowed, and we certainly could be under 20 after the dust settles - and I wouldn't give up hope until the 17th, because anything could happen before then.

Anyway - if you do get called, and they tell you that you need green and white scrubs - I'll be the bald guy with the Mountain Dew hiding in the back of the classroom!

Good luck!

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

There are usually 30 per group, they can fit as many as 40 if they have the clinical space. Good luck it was a great program!

Thanks for the info! And good luck next week!

Just a quick update - 20 students took the CNA final, and I'd be surprised if anyone failed - according to evolve, the average score was ~90%. Final grades & paperwork were supposed to be delivered to Gateway today. If a normal cohort @ Gateway is 30 students, there should be at least 7 open slots (3 people in our group already had CNA certs).

Good luck - sounds like a few people will be getting calls in the next few days...

Do you happen to know who they will be filling the open slots with? I am guessing probably from the group who did not get placed for this Fall?

Thanks for the update!

Yes, I believe it's based on the waiting list.
