Bariatric Nurse Certification

Specialties Gastroenterology

Hi everyone, its been awhile since I have been on here. I was wondering if anyone has taken the Certification for Bariatric Nursing. I'm having a hard time figuring out what to study. I have looked at the guide and paid for the review course, but I feel like i'm still missing something. Does anyone have any advice or could tell which direction to head? Thanks so much!!

All aspects of it. Is there a study giide

I studied for and passed this a couple of years ago. It was harder than I expected. I'm a "good test taker" and anticipated that most of the questions would be the kind you can figure out the correct answer to, even if you don't know all of the facts by heart, but it turned out not to be that kind of test at all--it's pretty much all knowledge-based, rather than prioritization and that kind of thing. Eight of us from my unit took it, and only two of us passed. I don't think it's a HARD test, but none of us knew what we were getting into when we were studying.

I don't remember all the specifics, but do know the different types of surgery very well--how they're done, their benefits and drawbacks. Understand the roles of each member of the care team (MD, psychologist, dietitian, nurse, etc). Good luck!

Does it help with knowing the surgeries and the care with each surgery ?

Thanks for the info. I talked to some of the nurses who took the test when it first was introduced. Even they said that when they took the test there was stuff on there that they had no idea they needed to study for. for example nutrition and vitamins.
