Galen College of Nursing - Spring 2021 (San Antonio)

Specializes in Psych.

Hey Guys! I’m starting the Lvn day program at Galen in San Antonio and was wondering if anyone else will be attending the same program! I’m super terrified and would love to get to know my peers.

Specializes in ICU.

It's a trap! ? Run! Try SAC, St Phillips, or BSHP. Galen is super expensive and from what I hear don't have great instructors. Galen pushesany student to LVN then LVN to RN then RN to BSN. $90k for a BSN when you can go to UTHSCSA or BSHP for much cheaper.

One of my classmates at BSHP quit the program after one day.

I applied to Galen, took the entrance exam last year, was bumped to the April class due to the full January class. I have tried to get a hold of the admission person since December, to this date, nothing. Even the chat button on their website left me hanging today, waste of my time! Some of my coworkers are in the same boat, what is going on with this overrated school!!??

Sign from God, run!

I was also bumped to the April start and I applied since October for the BSN program. I also applied to UIW got accepted and now IDK what to do I am currently waiting on galen's acceptance or denial letter I spoke to an advisor and my file is still in the review process.

Wow!! They treat people like crap. Do what is best for you, best of luck to you ☺️

How much is tuition? Factor in the opportunity costs. You need to be an RN not BSN to work as a registered nurse. Cost-(Time x RN Salary). In most cases an ADN or accelerated BSN ( at a reasonable price) comes out better than galen or chamberlain.

I am currently in the Galen LVN evening program and will be graduating in December. I like that it has been online because it is convenient but price was is ridiculous. Only reason I ended up going here was because I really wanted to just go straight for my RN but I could not pass the TEAS I always missed by one point and was tired of waiting to become a nurse. So I have started off with the LVN thank god for student financial assistance and with student loans we have not had any interest rate the whole time I have been in the program because of COVID. I have had a few instructors that I like but I will not be going back for my RN there. For one I am moving back to DFW area and two I don't want to pay so much for that program. But if it is your only option it is one of the easiest schools to get into. I also made a 98 on the entrance exam for LVN and you need an 83 I believe but with the BSN you need a 101 and I really wanted to do just that but they would not even consider it even though I had all my pre reqs. I would keep calling them we are still not back at campus and it is hard to get ahold of people at times which sucks.

AT THE END OF THE DAY, doesn't matter where you get your education from for nursing, WE ALL TAKE THE SAME DAMN TEST. :]

I had a friend who graduate from UIW, had financial aid, paid out of pocket, had scholarships and still walked away with at least $60k in loans alone (she paid ALOT out of pocket $20k)

Galen isn't THAT bad of a school. Most of these schools you go to anyways you could only get SO much out of the professors but 80% of it still teaching yourself. Baptist is a great school if you can get into it, very very competitive, most their clinicals are at baptist hospitals, as galen its with methodists. UIW just seem to have a bad rep for clinicals as they teach them how to document over patient care. UThealth well.... a good handful of friends quit after 1 semester and went else where.

SAC I was told there is a waitlist for about 2 years. As the pandemic hit, they held off for almost a year before reopening to accept applications, as this is BY FAR your cheapest route but pass rates not that great. CC will always be your cheapest route.

It definitely matters where you go to school. Avoid Galen, Chamberlain and UIW. No LVN or RN student should finish school with 60-90,000 in student loan debt when other schools such as Baptist, SAC, and UTHSCSA are a third of the cost.

I mean some of us don’t have a choice when getting denied at more than one school over and over again, or put on the waitlist for over 6months. Like not everyone has the time to wait LOL each year tuitions are going up longer you wait the more it’ll cost. Just saying. watched tuitions go up at some of these colleges in the last 5 years.
