Had a couple in that were clearly comic fans.. they had three kids all with some sort of superhero reference. Parker (not so bad), Bruce Wayne (first and middle name... Ugh), and finally they gave their youngest the middle name Thor. Yes... Thor.

My ex-husband has an uncle with the given name of Pork, he's in his late 40's and works in road construction. His mother gave the hospital his name, which was in her language and whomever helped her fill out the birth certificate (she was illiterate) spelled it Pork. I asked him about it once, and he said it never gave it much thought... He knew what his name actually meant, and because he went to school on a reservation, so did all the other kids, it was only white folks that found it odd as he grew up.

*** Thor is not an uncommon name among the descendants of the Vikings who have settled here in the frozen north. I know several Thors and even a couple girls names Thora . No reference at all to a super hero.

I knew someone once named Toi (pronounced toy) Balls... Yup, not a married name either!

The other one was Dorcus.

I wonder what parents think sometimes!

Went to school with a Clayton Thor (last name). Awesome middle name!

When I was a peds nurse I saw a Neo (from Matrix), Sequoia (after the tree), and in my son's preschool class: Molly Popp (not funny, parents). And a college professor: James Jamison (again, not funny).

I have a relative who is dating someone named Prince and has a sister named Princess ... but that is because they are actual royal descendants. True story.
