Twin girls: LaShine and LaShone (I guess LaShine was born first, since her sister has the past-tense name)

Girl: Manesseiaseijahajaha (pronounced "Manessa", I guess the "eaiseijahajaha" is silent)

Boy: Sterling Silver

Boy: Dookie (poor kid)

Girl: Raven

Girl: Urethra (yes, that's right...named after the urinary tract!)

Torn from the headlines...

TN Judge orders baby's name be changed from 'Messiah'

"The word Messiah is a title and it's a title that has only been earned by one person and that one person is Jesus Christ," Judge Ballew said.

From the Tennessean today!

Personally I think naming a kid "Messiah" is misguided at best, downright stupid at worst; but regardless, the judge is waaay outta bounds changing it. Haven't read the story, though... I believe reading/watching the news in Tennessee lowers one's IQ...

Maybe they'll change it to LemonJello...

There was some big hooey-hoo not too long ago about some kid being named Hitler. His siblings also had controversial names. I think the courts were involved also.

You mean...Jèsus (HAY-seuss)?? :)

I went to elementary school in my hometown with TWO Jèsus(es) before I moved to the East coast...I haven't encountered that many Mohammeds, though...

I have not run across any strange baby names professionally, but in the third grade, I had PE with a girl named Velveeta. She was picked on a lot because of the name, but I found it interesting. That may be due to my love of all things cheesy. I also grew up with a girl named Tinker. I thought it was cute and fit her. I also had a cashier at the Kroger named Alibi. I have a common name, but it's spelled differently. There are two "f"s instead of a "ph". My name is pretty much spelled phonetically, but you'd think it was written in Sanskrit when people look at me funny and try to read it. I guess they don't realize that "ff" and "ph" make the same sound. Oh well.:)

I once had a patient who did not know she was pregnant and gave birth very early in a Dunkin donuts. She didn't have a name for the baby so we suggested Dee-Dee since she had the baby in Dunkin. She went with it. Not such an unusual baby name, but an interesting story nonetheless. :)
