Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

The best ones I had in NICU were Lil' Caesar and Kimyada Aiesha.

Then there were the twins: Cecil Anthony 'Jones' Jr. and Thomas Allen 'Smith' Jr. Neither mom nor dad was named 'Smith' or 'Jones' - and yet they were both 'Jr'. That was 30+ years ago, and I'm still scratching my head over that one.....

Anyone remember when Cher and Sonny named their child Chasity? People snickered but after some of the celebrity names I remember it is mild...Apple, River, George (not bad until you get siblings George and George). When we were picking baby names, the book we used recommended not getting "cute", citing family with last name of Beach who named their children Pebble, Sandy and Rocky. I always wondered if that was true.... I personally knew of a Justin Case. What are people thinking??

They aren't!

It seems as if there are just too many parents who view naming a child in the same light as a creative writing contest. They don't consider that the reason they are the first to choose something so "original" is that the choice is truly heinous.

Had a couple in that were clearly comic fans.. they had three kids all with some sort of superhero reference. Parker (not so bad), Bruce Wayne (first and middle name... Ugh), and finally they gave their youngest the middle name Thor. Yes... Thor.

I went to high school with more than one Thor. (Have my 40th reunion coming up this Summer.) Thor is a very common Norwegian name, and I lived in a community that was mostly Norwegian.

I worked with a woman named "Lyric." She was a triplet; her sisters were "Melody" and "Harmony."

Had a nursing supervisor named "Queen." She named her daughter "Princess" and Princess named HER daughter "Empress."

I went to school with a girl named "Snow". Last name was Blizzard. She married a man with the last name of Storm, and they reportedly named their daughters "Summer" and "Windy." My aunt insists that they named their son "Thunder", and she ought to know since she's been principal of the local high school for thirty some years.

I've worked with a Quiana (after a form of polyester that used to be popular), Precious, Lovely, Bliss, Kissy, Zowee and Tree. Zowee has sisters named Odd and Even. I've also worked with a Leeway and a Leeward -- twins, whose parents were sailors. Also with a Winnefred (male) whose twin sister was Winnefred also. (She was Winnie, he was Freddie).

Specializes in LTC.

I went to high school with a guy named Kitefindsthefeather

I have some really good patient ones, but I'm going to stick with acquaintances.

Richard Buttery (of course goes by Dick)

Atol Atol Akol Akol (actually an ethnic name and beautiful if you get past how it looks on paper)

Starsha Lumina (Boy)

Pretty (why don't you just call her Lucky and jinx her for good...I'm probably a bad person)

Spiderman (A nurse I know swears this is her niece's middle name as a result of her older brother helping pick but I cannot confirm this)

Melena (only unfortunate to us medical types)

I named my daughter something that gets a few eye rolls so I shouldn't judge, but sometimes you gotta giggle.

There used to be a lab tech where I work named Melina. Every time she had to phone the floor she would say, "Hello, this is Melina in the lab," and I had to fight not to giggle.
