I have heard a lot of good stuff about this book and was about to get it today but I wanted to ask how this tips work? Do you read the book before first semester, do you incorporate it into first semester or how does it work?
Also, what is the main difference between first and second edition? Apart from the 5 year publishing gap?
Any advice on it?
Thanks,
Eddie

great book, definitely get it! The tips are great, you can read them before starting school, but if you've already started, it's not too late to read them. But the practice questions were the most valuable to me. It's hard to find practice nclex questions for fundamentals, most of the nclex books focus on disorders/medsurg. This book is strictly fundamentals. The best way to learn how to be successfull on the tests is to practice the nclex questions and also take to heart the tips in the front of the book as well. Helps you understand how to break a question apart and find out what it's really asking.

read the test taking tips before your first test, that is for sure. do the practice questions and read the rationales, it will help you understand why the answer is correct and why the other answers are wrong.
i also recommend the pharmacology success and med-surg success book. i used those books a lot during nursing school and studying for the nclex.
good luck!

The book is great, I love the fact that that you have the rationale for each question. I use it as a studt guide. I read my chapters and lecture powerpoint and then attempt to do the review questions. There is a whole series med-surg, psch, and ob etc that will help you through nursing school. I found that our instructors take question from the book for tests.

I highly recommend that book! I credit that book with much of my success in my first semester, and I know that many of my classmates also really liked it. I read some of the test taking tips, but for the most part just used the practice questions. Reading the rationales was particularly helpful, because they explained not only why the right answer was right but also why the others were wrong. I also found that we had some similar questions pop up on our exams.
If you're really interested in test taking tips, and a few more practice questions, check out Test Success as well. I wasn't very interested in test taking tips, but our library has it, so I did check it out and use it some (I'll take all the help I can get, thanks ). It's definitely got some good tips in it, and would be especially good for anyone who struggles with tests and the anxiety that goes along with them.

I loved the book, I swear my teacher used some of those questions from the first edition on one of our exams! You can buy either one because most of the information is the same but I think with the second edition you get a CD. Its worth the money because the rationales helped me understand the information a lot better than my textbook.

I used it last semester. I found it helpful as far as understanding the NCLEX question format but that's about it.

What other book I can use for fundamentals to prepare for the test?
