Fun School Nurse stickers!

Wanted to share a tip...my principal asked me about getting some "head injury" stickers for the kids with bumps to the head that are not severe, but we need to keep an eye on. I had never heard of them. He told me a principal at another school shared it with him. They are cute stickers that say "please watch me: I bumped my head!" I told him I would research it and get back with him.

I found a company called SmileMakers, a subsidiary (sp?) of Staples, that carried them. I ordered a roll of 100, plus 3 different styles of school nurse related stickers, plus a roll of "caught being good" stickers. I also got a dispenser that fits 5 rolls. It ended up being about $50 and my principal reimbursed me for them :)

I had never heard of these, so it might be something you all already know about or use, but if not I thought I would share. You might be able to get your principal to kick in for them. I am hitting him up for $$ for crackers next, for the kids who don't eat breakfast!

I can't find the "bumped head" stickers...do you have a product number or something?? Where are they listed on the website?

Under the Teachers tab there is a section called "Encouragement", then a sub-section called "School Health". It is in with the other stickers in that category. I don't see a unit #, but they are called "Please Watch Me Stickers". Lots of other cute school nurse stuff there. They also have a free catalog you can order.

I ordered some of the bumped head stickers and the caught being good ones and some health posters. I'm going to use the "caught being good" stickers as a reward for kids in the hallway. Hopefully, they will behave better, hoping to see me coming! haha!!

Yes, I really like the caught being good ones as well. I try very hard to praise good behavior at least twice as often as I correct bad behavior, but I do not always succeed. Hopefully these will remind me...I keep a few in my pocket at all times!

I saw those stickers. I like them, but what about privacy issues?

I thought about this. I decided that I would tell the parent about the stickers when I call them (I always call for any injury to the head), and ask their permission. I would document their response on my log sheet. I will let you all know how this system works out, I am curious to know how parents will respond to it!

Thanks for sharing! I've been making my own stickers for health teachings, camp, encouragement, etc.

I had actually ordered some of the "bumped head" stickers from Smile Makers and they are actually due to be delivered today. Because of the previous question about privacy issues, I emailed our system nursing supervisor and she said not to use them. She gave me a scenario that I hadn't thought of....Little "Junior" falls at recess and bumps his head, it's not a serious bump but you give him one of the stickers and he goes back to class. On the way back, he passes a visitor to the school who happens to be a family friend. She calls Mom, and tells her about the sticker and Mom flips out....so I guess I will be returning the stickers as soon as they arrive!

Yeah, that is why I decided to call before giving the sticker. Would that not eliminate any problems? Or is there something else I am not considering?

I was only planning on using them for the "bigger" bumps (but those not so bad they need a referral). Basically my line of thinking was if it is bad enough to call and let the parent know about it, then I would ask them if they would like the student to have the sticker at the same time.
