Just a super random question and I’m sure my title doesn’t make much sense but I’m trying here. I’ve been pretty overwhelmed at work recently, I work in the ICU and we have all been working very hard with a high census and short staffing. In the past I worked a lot of overtime (4-5 shifts per week) but recently I noticed I can’t really do that anymore. I’m too tired and have too much anxiety and I hate feeling that way. I also have a per diem as a school nurse through an agency which I love since it is very low stress , the problem is I don’t go to it often because the schools that need nurses are either too far away from me and the benefit isn’t there for me to drive so far, or the schools that are close by need a nurse when I’m scheduled for my full time so I can’t go. Sometimes I rearranged my schedule to go to those schools but I can’t do it all the time or very often. So basically my question is, are there any nurses here or out there that do have a full time job as a nurse (I want to keep my job I love being an ICU nurse and I love my unit despite the short staffing and anxiety) but also a part time doing something that’s not nursing that I can look into without too much stress? It sounds a bit unconventional I just want to know. Thanks !
