Hi everyone. I graduated in May with my bsn. I have passed my nclex but was having a very difficult time finding a job. Last week I took a full time RN position on a subacute unit at a long term care facility. Im supposed to start next week. I just got a phone call from a nursing manager on a med surg floor that I worked 120 full hours on for my last clinical rotation. She wanted to see if im interested in taking a part time job on the floor. I really would love to work on that floor because the staff was great and I liked the variety of patients I had. I also didnt really wanna work in a nursing hkme but I was desperate for a job. However, im also worried I wont be able to live financially working only part time.
Do you guys think I should pursue the hospital job or stay with the ltc facility?

i say go for the hospital job. you can read on many posts here that since hospitals are so understaffed as it is, you will be getting calls on your days off to come in and work.. plus the medsurg hospital experience will look great for you. most hospitals only want to hire people with 1-2 yrs hospital experience anyway..it will open up the doors for you to get maybe a full time position at that hospital or another one eventually. if the $$ isnt enough, maybe you can work part time at a LTC facility too.i just think as a new grad it would be a great opportunity for you to be able to work in a hospital...best of luck!
