Is there anyone planning to apply for FSCJ's Summer 2011 RN program? I am taking A&PI and II next semester with Human Growth and Dev. and Sociology, then I'll apply. I am taking Microbiology during the spring prior to going into the program. I am taking the Nat in September after Chem 1032. What about you?
UNF's BSN program is impossible to get into, very competitive. I don't have a GPA close enough to getting in. I went there for 3 years before I changed my major to nursing and switched schools. So FSCJ's ADN nursing program is easily attainable for me in my situation. I don't know about everyone else
Also, an ASN will get us a paycheck sooner than later. For me to go to UNF I would need to finish my AA and then hope I get into the program. If I didn't get in then I just wasted my time taking all of those extra credits, just to end up going to FSCJ anyway. No thanks. FSCJ is more realistic.
I agree with all of you. I need a decent income like yesterday, and I also plan to go back to school for my BSN. UNF is very competetive, and JU is very expensive. If I do not get accepted into FSCJ this semester or next semester I will go ahead and apply to schools for my BSN. My cousin is employed with St. Vincent's and she says that the hospital wants to be recognized as some type of hospital in achievement and excellence and in order to do that they have to have nurses with a certain level of education, a bachelor's degree. Not sure how true that is but I have heard that a few times about hospitals now. They are looking for nurses with a BSN.

I had heard something like that... the version that I heard was that the had to have a certain percentage of their nurses with a BSN to get that award.
K nurse, as far as Baptist not hiring anything but a BSN. I was told that by a nurse that works at one of my doctors offices. She seemed worried that I was only going for my associates because she said she went to a job fair and that the Baptist people told her they were only accepting applications from nurses with BSN's. It wouldn't surprise me with the way the job market is. As you know though, sometimes people perceive things differently than they actually are. It also helps if you know certain people when applying for a job :) Things are changing all of the time. All I know is that for now FSCJ is the best bet for me and my family. I will certainly apply for the hospital jobs when I am finished with school, but I am not going to get my hopes up.
Everyone is having a hard time find jobs right now. Bsn's and even nurses with experience. There is no need to be rude to people. I really don't understand what this persons problem is. At the end of the day we are all taking the SAME NCLEX and just b/c you have a bsn doesn't make you a better nurse. If you are not an fscj hopefull then this thread is none of your concern anyhow hmtodoc
