FSCJ/FCCJ Fall 2011 Hopefuls

Published

I know this is early, but I am sure there are Fall hopefuls out there for 2011.

Anyone out there yet, or am I just overly eager?

:lol2:

Yep...i calculated it over and over. Ugh!! N/W would be ideal for me but I am fine with either or...which right now is probably days if I get in. I am usually really good in Science...I really dont know where I went wrong, the only questions I wasn't too sure about (or so I thought) were the electricity questions. I wish we could see what we got wrong.

Oh well though, no use in stressing too much over what I cant change right now. I have an interview with Chamberlain for their BSN program, and am looking into JU as well. My grades are great, my GPA is great, and this one silly test has just made all that seem like it doesnt matter! Frustrating....:scrying:,

Do you plan to ever go back for your BSN? If so, you could use the next semester to take Statistics and Human Nutrition, and just get those under your belt for later. I know you have worked so hard to get this far. But just don't give up. In the grand scheme of your life and your future career, 4 months is NOTHING. A drop in the bucket. Just remember that, and try not to be discouraged. Also, don't give up hope. Anything could happen! :)

waiting....i am bad at waiting!!! i guess i should get over it...i applied 2 weeks ago, hoping for fall 2011 :uhoh3:

EmGray, the nursing office told me not to expect any correspondence until the last week in July.

I'm sure it's been discussed before, but do you all know about all the supplies that are listed like the books, skills kit, uniforms, etc...? Is all that required for the first day out of pocket, or does financial aid help for any of it?

Yes, I am def getting my BSN and then MSN. I plan to specialize in being a Midwife. I know its only a few extra months, but I am just ready to start, ya know? I am actually taking those two courses (stat and nutrition) this summer! Chamberlain has a fully acredited BSN program that I could complete in about two years sense I have pretty much all the pre reqs done. So ill see how that goes.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragment!! I am not discouraged one bit and am going to get this done one way or another...just really frustrated with myself and this test. That score took me by complete surprise. We'll see what happens though...

NJ- I KNOW!!!! 2 MONTHS!!!! Crazy.....I want to know NOW!!! I am taking courses towards BSN to kill time...

@EmGray, lol I feel the same way. I wish they would say, "here's a letter with all the details so you can start preparing."

@FutureRN022, what's the difference in cost b/w FSCJ and Chamberlain? Will it be cheaper to go to FSCJ for the RN, then return for the BSN? or is it cheaper to just go to Chamberlain for 2 yrs and have your BSN?

@77for2011, I was just thinking the same thing! if you search for the previous 'hopeful' boards, you should be able to find some info. For now, I am concentrating on getting my CPR certification. Then, I have to look into the immunizations requirements..and, will my insurance cover it? and how much will be my out of pocket? That should keep me busy for a couple of weeks, I hope.

For me, the short-term goal is to get my AS, then I want my BSN. If God blesses me with health, time and money, I will pursue my masters. I am really interested in Forensics and would love to be involved in that field. What is everyone else interested in?

Chamberlain is pretty costly, right about the same as JU. I think it may be a little less than JU, but not by much. Im not too sure of the cost difference as far as FSCJ and then a BSN vs Chamberlain alone. I think Chamberlain might be a little more in the long run, but I like the idea that it is accelerated and that ill come out with my BSN instead of having to go back. I would be happy either way. Both are great programs. I am turning in my FSCJ app this afternoon and I have an interview with Chamberlain this afternoon, so ill keep you all updated on how that goes.

Btw, I think forensics would be awesome to get into! I have a love for children and babies, so its Midwife or Pediatric Nurse Practioner for me!

Please do your research, and don't just listen to me...but...I have read on these boards and others, that the "career" colleges, ie. Chamberlain, Concorde, Kaiser, etc.... are just businesses, and do not really care about offering a great education. I have continually heard that FSCJ graduates are looked upon well, and that they are the most prepared to start working, as opposed to UNF grads...not sure about JU. Also- very important-I have heard and read that FSCJ's BSN program for nursing is NOT accredited, and that if you are planning to continue on for your Masters that your credits may not transfer. Again, I have heard the exact same thing about Concorde, Chamberlain, etc.... So you might want to look at that info (from outside sources) before attending those schools. I have researched this extensively before choosing FSCJ. I have G.I. Bill and Pell grant, so could've chosen to go anywhere, but decided to go ADN at FSCJ, and continue my BSN in somebody's bridge program a little later. I have heard that those career colleges make it very hard to pass, and that even if you fail out, you still owe the HUGE $30,000 loans that they got you to sign up for. $30,000! For an associates?! Ludicrous!

Ok, and just a disclaimer....I don't mean to offend anyone that goes to either of those schools. I am just offering my opinion and the research that I found when making my choice. Good luck to you, whichever route you take! :twocents:

wow, thanks for that info...i saw this on the fscj site:

"this nursing education program is a candidate for accreditation by the national league for nursing accrediting commission, 3343 peachtree road ne, suite 850, atlanta, ga 30326 (404) 975-5000."

http://floridastatecollegecatalog.fscj.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=21&poid=4070&hl=&returnto=search

so what i am getting from this is that fscj is not accredited yet for the bsn proram; they are a candidate. does that mean the are in the process of requesting accreditation? maybe this will change by the time i am ready to pursue my bsn.

Could be. But yeah, "a candidate" doesn't guarantee anything. I don't want to take that chance. I am pretty sure I want to advance past the bachelors level, so I will wait and see what comes my way once I get into the workforce. That's just me though.
