FSCJ/FCCJ Fall 2011 Hopefuls

Published

I know this is early, but I am sure there are Fall hopefuls out there for 2011.

Anyone out there yet, or am I just overly eager?

:lol2:

Do we know per chance what the cut off score is for Fall 2011? I pretty sure mine is like 180 something, i'm not scared to not get in my first try. I am young, i did duel enrollment, so i'm pretty much ahead of the group, but i don't want to wait till end of July to find out! LOL

........ sitting here in this cubicle daydreaming about nursing school, nursing, etc! I truly cannot wait to have a fulfilling job!

We wont know the cutoff until they send out the letters of acceptance/denial (they tell you what the cutoff score was in the letter). It is different for every term. Last Fall the cutoff was around 202 I believe, which is ALOT higher than usual. Good luck to you!! Hopefully it is not as high this time!

ok guys, just got back from taking the NAT...I have to post b/c I am sooooo excited!!!

My raw scores: academic aptitude - 69; Reading Comp - 33; Natural Sciences - 67

If I am calculating correct (169 x .64 = 108.16) plus 104 pts from pre-req's equals 212.16 total points!!!

I am on my way to turn in my application!!!! woo-hoo!!! :clown:

Congrats!!!! Awesome score!! I am taking it tomorrow. A little nervous!! Can you tell me what you thought about it? How hard was the math to you? Math on timed tests make me nervous! lol. Id love your insight on the exam!! Thanks so much!! Congrats again!!:yeah:

That is an amazing score NJ! Congrats!

thanks everyone! :clown: It's a bit of a blur so if I mix up sections, forgive me. I started with the spelling to calm my nerves and familiarize myself with the format of the test.

The math section was a combination of word problems, shapes and some simple equations involving decimals, fractions, etc. (I have always struggled with math problems) The reading passages are short and some of the questions are straight to the point while some are more intuitive based on the reading. The science portion was mostly AP1 & AP2, some chemisty, some micro (very basic though) and some electrical questions (???)

My strategy was to spend no more than 1-2 min per problem. After that I would guess the best answer. Some of the math I answered as soon as I had the first digit of the solution (time-saving technique). You have to remember, the wrong answers don't count so answer everything because you will probably answer enough questions correctly before you can get thru all the questions. Oh yeah, I took advantage of the ear plugs (you can't afford to waste any time) and stretch between sections.

Good luck!

WTG, NJ!!! Now you don't have to really worry about the wait, b/c you already know what your letter is going to say :) That's fabulous.

I will say to anyone still getting ready to take it who is worried about math: CROSS MULTIPLY AND DIVIDE! That is the way you can figure out 90% of the math problems. If you don't know what that means, go to the Math lab and have the tutors show you how to do it. The word problems are really silly (not silly, just random numbers), like: 24 out of 47 people passed the NAT. What percentage failed? Suzy wants to buy gauze, which costs $.98 per yard. How many 14" bandages can she make if she can purchase $2.00 worth of gauze.

Thanks 77for2011. You are so right about the math problems.

I did do a lot of cross-multiplication....I can solve almost anything with ratios...lol

I am not so good with fractions so I would convert them to decimals whenever I could.

And those medical supplies questions...ugh! lol

Get plenty of scrap paper...you will need it for the math. Don't forget to complete all the steps for the answer...the wrong answer is sometimes an answer choice.

I used my paper. They had those LED boards for "scrap" paper, but I didn't like those. I don't know what I'll do if/when everything goes digital! I'm already dreading trying to figure out if I should do the iPad/ebook thing. I've been reading the discussions on here about it. I have an Android phone, though. But I've also read that iPhone or not, you can't use it in school. I do have a small netbook, so maybe I'd rather have that so I can do cut/paste from the ebooks. Hmmmmmm.....decisions, decisions!

So...I took the NAT yesterday evening and didnt do so well. I am SUPER bummed. I only recieved 90pts...I felt really good about it after taking it, but once I got my score all I could do was cry!! The math (the part I was worried about) I did just fine on, however, the science....not so much. Im great in science. I dont know what happened!!!! I will only have 195.54 points to apply with...NOwhere near what I want or probably need. I just hope and pray the cutoff isnt as high as it was last fall and that it is around its usual 194ish. Really stinks that I busted my butt in my classes and that this one test could make or break me. :crying2: All I can do now is cross my fingers and pray. We shall see. I have decided to apply to other colleges as well...just in case. I really dont want to have to wait another semester to begin.

So sorry to hear you are bummed, FutureRN022. I think you might still have a shot.

Are you sure you calculated the points correctly? Are you going for days or n/w?

I could see how the science section would be more challenging. I was lucky enough to have a professor that focused on the clinically important things. She always said, "what is the point of learning every muscle, bone, nerve, etc if you aren't specializing in that particular field?" Many of the things she told us to remember, were on the exam. I love her for that!

Keep your head up,

NJ
