Hi, everyone! I have been on the forum before, but had lost my log in info, so after finding it, I am back and have some questions...I am currently finishing up Paramedic School, and am wanting to take the online bridge course to RN through Excelsior college online. Have any of you done this? I am at the top of my class, so studying isn't a problem for me, but I'm not sure if this is a good option or not. I plan to work 'in the field' full time as a Paramedic when I get my license in September and thought I could take this program at the same time. I plan to become a Flight Paramedic, but would like to have the option of working in an ED as an RN as well. I love the 'street work' that Paramedics do, :redbeathe so becoming solely an RN is not in my plan; I want to be both! Any advice from any of you?
Thanks so much! :)

Do any of your local colleges offer a Paramedic-to-RN program? You may be better served in going through a traditional program as you are relatively new to healthcare. The reason that I say this is that I know a couple of medics locally who have years of experience, gone through the Excelsior program, and failed the $2500 CPNE.
This is not exclusive to medics, either. I've read a ton of horror stories online about CPNE examiners out to fail folks. I guess it all comes down to luck of the draw when you get your examiners.
Unfortunately, I don't have any firsthand advice. I just came across a ton of info while researching my possibilities for LPN-to-RN, and decided that it would just be better for me to go through a community college than try to gamble away my money at $2500 a pop on the CPNE.

I'm a paramedic (as well as an ED tech!), and I just finished EC's program. I'll take my boards next month, and I'll be working in my ED as an RN. So yes, it is do-able! I also want to be both a paramedic and an RN, so I'll keep my NREMT-P and continue to volunteer as a medic, as well as work in the ED as an RN. :) :) :)

Thanks Lunah, I was waiting for you to reply to that last poster. It can be done.
Actually, I was just replying to the first poster! :) Sorry, I should have quoted ... I'll fix that. :)
Don't worry about it, the message is still the same...it's doable.
