Fresh BSN graduate: Could i get NCLEX-RN exam without taking local licensure exam?

Published

Hope someone could help me, here how it goes....

I'm a graduating student of BSN here in manila this MARCH2008. i'M wondering if i could go and take NCLEX-RN examination directly since my uncle and auntie are willing to support me with this and they are planning to get me there either in US or canada to stay and work there as a NUrse (once i passed the licensed) . They are planning to get me this JUNE 2008 UNFORTUNATELY, the board of nursing here is planning to changed the USUAL dates of local licensure exam. Instead of JUNE it will be on NOVEMBER2008. mE and my family don't want to wait for that long period of time before i could get a chance to have license and work as RN. imagine IF ever i passed that local licensure exam i will start working as a RN on 2009. We're in hurry because i'm the only breadwinner of the family and we're just grabbing the oppurtunities offered by me aunties/uncles from california and canada to help me get there and make my foundation. Hope somebody could help me find solution to my problem. Thanks in advance and godbless!:thankya:

Would suggest you have a read as there is talk of Ca requiring from the 1st Jan 08 a local license, plus with retrogression you are looking at over 5 years at the moment before moving to the US and that is if you are lucky obtaining a visa as no longer a guarantee due to high demand

You still need to be petitioned thru an employer, your auntie and uncle have nothing that they can do to speed things up. You still need to go thru the immigration process and that is taking quite sometime.

There is no way that you will be able to work overseas as soon as you pass the exams, you cannot even start the petitioning process without having passed the exam either.

And with the retrogression in place, you are looking at about five years for even a chance at a visa for the US. Coming to the US on a tourist visa and staying is also out of the question and should not be considered as there are no visas available for you to adjust to.

Suggest some reading about the retrogression for you. As well as the fact that you cannot apply directly to sit for the licensing exam here or in Canada, you have to go thru the BON and get approval to sit for the exam.

Do suggest that you write the NLE as you are going to need experience as an RN; waiting for five years for the US without any experience and that is not going to get you far.

Please shed light on NCLEX application process:

>> Which states do not require SSN?

>> I received my BSN last Sept '07 and took the Phil Nursing Licensure Exam last December '07; news have it that results will be released late Jan '08 or 1st wk of Feb '08. Currently not employed yet... Given this scenario, may I apply for BON/NCLEX exam, or should I have applied within the three months after graduation?

Thanks.

Welcome to the site

You really need to decided where you want to live. Much has been written on here but with you taken local boards they will need confirmation when you apply to a BON for licensure to be a RN in the US. You are not applying for NCLEX exam. You are also at the moment looking at approx 5 years due to retrogression and no longer a guarantee due to the high demand especially from your country.

I would suggest a long read in this forum and even try the search facility with keywords and look

Appreciate your prompt reply. Thanks very much!

is that for real? I also heard from my auntie that there were new changes with regards to NCLEX-RN requiremenst to applicants.. But i also heard from my bacthmate that there are some state there in US thats doesn't require local licensure exam..is this true? if ever i'll be working in Singapore .. Can i take NCLEX-RN for US there? It frustrates me a lot knowing about the retrogression.. i know it will be too hard.. and patience is very needed 5 years may take long time. unlike before... we all know salary of nurses here in philippines is very different to other country. thanks for those who reply... hope i hear more comment about this.. Godbless you all! =)

There are some states at the moment that do not require local boards but expect things may change, really you need to decide where you want to live and apply to that BON for Licensure to be a RN in the US (saying that we do not recommend Ca for initial licensure). At the moment you can not take NCLEX exam in Singapore. You will need to look at countries near there http://www.vue.com/nclex/ with this link you can search for a center.

There is no NCLEX testing in SG. There is a Pearson-vue center there but it does not cater to NCLEX testing. There is HK, Makati, Guam, Taipei, and Japan. There are still some States that do not require it, such as NM and CA (but pending decision to require it very soon). Also, note that since there is no telling when retrogression will be lifted and rules and polices and req'ts of diff. Boards change overtime and very often, esp. in regards to Int'l graduates and who knows the local license may also be strictly mandated to complete the Visa Screen Certification for all in the near future as well and so would not matter if your State did not ask for it. It would be best if you take it as insurance.

No you do not need either CGFNS or NCLEX for Canada. For Canada you need CRNE and is only done 3 times a year in Canada. Much in the Canadian forum regarding requirements for immigration. The problems you may see is that many countries require local license so may be better doing it. Even some states that did not require local license are changing and now require it (just something to think about)

LeaRN CRNE Readiness Test

The test also gives you instant overall results as well as four sub-scores based on the CRNE competency categories to help focus future study for the CRNE.Anyone who is planning to take the CRNE may want to consider taking this test. For internationally educated nurses, the test may be particularly helpful since it is accessible from all over the world and can be taken before coming to Canada.

Purchase the LeaRN CRNE Readiness Test online, with a credit card, for $42.38.

>>> i found this one of the site for CRNE. coPY& paste it here. Just would like to know if they requires local license can't find their requiremetns in their site.. www. cna-nurses.ca

Thanks
