Forensics- death investigation

Published

Hello All,

I am an RN working on Vancouver Island. I am currently working in mental health but am thinking of a career switch. I am interested in personal experiences, known education, job opportunities, etc on all things related to the specialty of death investigation. I would really appreciate any help or insight into this. Thanks in advance!

Are you planning to return to university for a forensics science degree?

Specializes in Psych, Addictions, SOL (Student of Life).

I was thinking about looking into a certification in forensic nursing. One of the state colleges offers it here in California. It's not so much death investigation as it is learning how to document traumatic injuries, do rape exams and interviewing victims and such. It just looked interesting.

agree with Hppy forensic nursing is not about death investigation, forensic nurses can be SANE nurses like Hppy said, or they can be working in a mental health facilities with patients who committed a crime and were found not criminally responsible.

As far as I have learned so far death investigation is a specialty within Forensic Nursing. It is listed as such by the Canadian Forensics Nurses Association. I would be interested in further education, although would prefer online or courses as I plan to continue working full time in my current job

Would depend on what the job opportunities look like out there. Also, I don't feel like I know enough about my options to decide on whether that would be necessary.
