Foreign graduates applying to New Jersey

hello guys, i just posted this because despite my emails to the BON of New Jersey, I am still not clear about what to do. This is for us foreign graduates applying to New Jersey. I just passed my June 2006 board exam here in the Philippines. For those who filed their applications in New Jersey please tell us about your experience. :idea:

1. We all know one of the requirements of New Jersey is CES from cgfns. In your experience, HOw many months is the processing time of CES? I know for sure in their application forms that it will only take 6 to 8 weeks but it also depends on the papers you submit to them if they are complete. One of the deans here said it will normally take 8 MONTHS for CES only:o . I think thats a long time. I am asking because I want to plan my actions well, my review time and if i have time to work or maybe Ielts.

First of all welcome and good luck with your plans for moving to the usa.

The main question I can help answer is how long does CES from CGFNS take. The answer truly is "as long as it takes" once you send off your application and fee it takes a few weeks to be issued your cgfns number. In the mean time you must apply to your nursing school for the transcript of your training and get them to fill in the form cgfns send you (is on thier website to) and send it direct to cgfns. I did a full educational report so got all my schools here in uk to submitt my qualifications. The longest was my nursing school who took a while to reply with my transcript to cgfns I had to call and chase them a few times. Then and be careful here be very specific with your dates my dates for my training on my application form I just put month and year the nursing school put day month and year. CGFNS took this as our dates not matching and then re-wrote to my school to clarify definate dates. I am still waiting for this to be done.

So far it is 6 months since I submitted my application but cgfns assure me as soon as they have the info from my school it will only be another 8 weeks (2 months) from then. So it will be the 8 months for me but most of that is my nursing school slowing things up.

Wow 8 months? I have 2 degrees so they will be getting my transcript from 2 schools. Hopefully the schools that I attended will send my transcripts as soon as possible becuase I can't stand 8 months hehe. Thanks for telling me about your experience with CES its very informative. I hope you get your CES soon too :p. For now I am weighing my options on where to go and what to take first :p

i heard that NJ BON strictly requires a US SSN from licensure applicants.

IELTS was not mentioned in the new licensure policy of NJ for foreign graduates: http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/adoption/nurado51.htm

it mentions only TOEFL. TOEFL ibt is now available in manila and cebu.

if your concern is to be able to sit for nclex while you're still fresh from school, options are NM or VT or Northern Marianas. less requirements, no CES from cgfns, no english proficiency exam for those who finished nursing programs in English, processing is 1 to 2 months, license will be issued even if applicant has no US SSN. after passing nclex, you can apply for visascreen. after getting license, you can endorse license to preferred state but you must also comply with the endorsement requirements of that state. endorsement takes time but then you're done with nclex.

Thanks Kiko! I am planning to take New Mexico's Nclex and at the same time apply my CES in cgfns so that if I am ready to endorse in New Jersey my Ces requirements will be done. So you mean that Ielts and Toefl requirements will really depend on the state where you want to go? HOw come I see alot of nurses here taking the english exams eventhough they are going to state where the english exams are not even required? Are english exams needed in Visa screeN?

Yes, English exams are also required for the VisaScreen.
