For those of you that have taken Hessi...

That's what I used to study by a little. I just kind of looked over the stuff that we had covered this past semester. Have you passed any Hesi tests in the past? I really didn't stress over it but we didn't HAVE to pass it to graduate-it was used as a tool to tell us what we needed to study up on for the NCLEX. Hopefully you will get other posters to give you some suggestions!

Good luck and really understand the rationale for the answer whether it is right or wrong. Let us know how you do after you take it ok.

You can do it. How have your grades been this semester on your tests? This will also be a good indicator of how well you know the stuff. Don't stress out too much! Easy for me to say that when it wasn't required for me to pass. Have faith in yourself!!

....The lecture/clinical part of the semester is OVER with. I now have 5 days to prepare for HESSI. I have to get at least a 850 on it in order to graduate. The heat is on!
Any tips for Hessi would be marvelos - or if you can remeber what content that was hardest hit when you took it, I can go from there. Also, how did you study for it - old notes, NCLEX books/CD's, both?

Man...5 days is cutting it short. You need to do the Hesi CD, and do the Hesi case studies on hesi.com. I sure hope you have the book. Otherwise, I would do nclex cd's. There's a lot of delegating questions (know what an RN vs. LPN vs. nurse aid can and can't do), there's prioritizing questions...what do you do first? Good luck.

Honestly (just being honest here) I didn't study for it at all and waited till the last day it was due. I was doing my preceptorship nights and worked a 7pm-7:30am shift the night before, then came in at 2pm to do the test so I wasn't exactly rested. Yet I got a 990 - go figure!

Then again, our nursing program was particularly brutal. Our school has a 100% pass rate on the boards every year so I think our school tests prepared us well. I found the NCLEX-RN to be relatively simple too. I did study for that for two weeks but when I took it I remember thinking our school tests were much harder and I was the first one done - 75 questions in about an hour.

That's weird you guys need a certain score to pass nursing school. Ours was a "suggested score" of 850 but I don't think anyone was penalized for getting below it.

WOW. What kind of grades did you get thru the program if you don't mind me asking?

Ya, an 850 to graduate. We get a total of 3 chances. The 1st is this Wednesday morning. If you don't get at least an 850, you have to take it again 1 week later. If you don't pass it then you get ONE last try a week after that. If you don't pass by then you are OUT of the program. Niiice. They just started it a year or so ago b/c their pass rate for the NCLEX was so low, and so they figure if you pass Hessi, you will pass NCLEX - which will make the school look wonderful. Sad thing is, people have been kicked out b/c they can't pass HESSI, several people actually. Also, a few people that have passed it have failed NCLEX.

I've heard a rumor that one of the failees' has a lawsuit going with the argument that... there is no way one can prepare for 2 years of a nsg program for this test in 5 days, and how much money he spent for his tuition/books etc, etc...for absolutely nothing.

Just average. C first semester, B the semesters thereafter. Oh and Bs in the prereqs except for Physiology which I hated (got a C).

Our program was really competitive and our advisor weeded out a lot of the deadwood before we graduated. We lost tons of people and people got flunked for HALF a point. She never bent the rules for anyone!

mstigerlily,, i got a 990 also and i did study some prior. I basically reviewed and worked with the NCLEX study stuff. We had to pass,, got two tries to pass or had to remediate the semester. A lot of programs both BSN and ADN have a mandatory pass on HESI anymore i think. If they dont they will soon.

If i remember right, NCLEX "strongly suggest" that programs offer and make mandetory a pass on HESI. Of course im not so sure they dont hold a premium on the bucks shelled out on the program and the fees to take it.

I recommend not trying to take HESI without doing some study, especially if your program mandates a pass to graduate. Dont make your graduation boil down to ONE test. Treat it like you would any other and study some for it.

I hated that HESI.

I have taken the HESI twice this semester. I am just finishing my second semester & we are required to take it after every nsg class. We are also required to take an exit HESI & pass in order to pass/take the NCLEX. I have scored in the 900's & had no time to prepare. We took our final on Tue. & HESI on Wed. this is considered 10% of our grade. If we do not score 850 we are required to do remedial work. If we don't pass the exit with the required score (not sure what it is) we get a second chance after doing the extra work. I have used the Saunder's NCLEX as a study tool for all my classes & I think this has helped me to be prepared. I use the nsg process, ABC's & safety to answer the questions & of course some is just knowledge based. I know the one's I have taken do not cover as much material as your's will but, I hope this will be of some help. My school does have 100% pass rate on the boards. Good luck to you! :)

I took my HESI without preparation, only because if we did not get the required 850 we had one more chance to take it over, luckily I passed, but I went in with the mentality that I was ok if I didn't pass because it took the stress off. I think you should focus on refreshing on community nursing (Windshield survey anyone?) and maybe refresh on the diseases such as M. Gravis and Addisons disease, etc... those always throw me for a loop with S&S. good luck you'll do fine....xoxo

I wouldn't stress too much about the hesi,I didn't really study for it that much,my school had a hesi review but it was a waste of time.Just review your notes,the info should all come back to you when you are taking the test,I passed the first time with a 910,alot of people in my class did not pass,however,In our school you didnt need to pass to graduate,they just wanted you to take it twice if you failed the first time you took it again then if you failed again that was it,it looks better for the school if you pass,it has something to do with the accreditation I believe.Good Luck.

I am taking the hessi this coming monday 9/18, I am studying the work books we used thoughout the quarter. So far my average a solid c, not good cosidering my grades prior to nurs were all a's. Good luck on the hessi.

All I can say is I purely hate the hessi I've studied and studied and I'm still having problems with it. ugh
