For those newly admitted, what are your plans for this summer?

Specializes in Adolescent Psych, PICU.

I start a BSN program in the fall and though I am excited I am really glad for summer break. I need a break from school!!

What are your plans for this summer? I have a lot of things to do before starting in the fall, I'm sure most of you will be doing similiar things....CPR healthcare provider class, immunizations, finding an affordable place to buy clincal uniforms, shoes, stethscopes, etc. I'm not sure where I'm going to get the money for all this...lol

I might get a job in the hospital but then again I think I might just like to do nothing all summer except lay by the pool and get a tan while my kids splash around....lol Relax before things really get hectic in the fall ya know?

Anyways, what are your plans??

Has anyone had orientation yet? We have our new nursing student orientation this wednesday, I'm kinda excited about that!

Specializes in NICU.

I too start a BSN program in the Fall. Our orientation isn't until May 11th though...I can't wait ;)

For the summer, I really wanted to take medical terminology &/or phlebotomy. Or, because I am a CNA (though never worked as one) I thought about working for the summer to get some experience, and a little money.

However, once I got my acceptance letter, I knew that what I really needed to do is take the summer off and spend quality time with the kids. So, I am planning on teaching them how to ride bikes, taking them swimming (to play and for lessons), camping, taking trips to see my grandparents (One set in Santa Cruz, CA...so we'll go to the boardwalk, and the other in Ann Arbor, MI), and just trying to relax and not obsess about starting school.

Oh, and I'll be doing the immunization/physical/CPR/shopping stuff too. I can't wait to find out what all they want me to buy so I can go have fun buying it.

My program starts May 22 and runs all summer so I guess that is where I am spending my summer-->clinicals, lab, and class:idea: -->> best to all!!

I start an ADN program in the fall. Summer will also be spent: "CPR healthcare provider class, immunizations, finding an affordable place to buy clincal uniforms, shoes, stethscopes, etc. " Only difference is I will be taking Microbiology Summer Session 1 and A&PII Summer Session 2. :uhoh3: Those are the only 2 classes I have left besides the nursing courses, this way I figure I can concentrate more on the nursing classwork. I start an ASN program this fall & I am going to play with the kids & relax this summer.

I have been told that it will be an insanely busy school year, so I hope I can just soak up all their (my kids) personalities & it will carry me through the two semesters.

I am excited & very nervous!

I start school on 5/15 therefore I have no plans for the summer except to study, study, study! It's actually not as bad as I think because it will keep my mind occupied in lieu of worrying about the awful hurricanes we get here in Florida.

Another summer starter! I was beginning to think I was alone!

I am going to relax w/ my husband and kids. We are going to rent a beach house at the beginning of May as soon as the semester is over (w/ my brother, sil, and their kids). My son is 6 and daughter is 4 (will be 5 in june) and they love the beach. Not sure what else.....just relaxxxxx!!!

Besides buying the necessary items (stethoscope.....cpr certification, bld. work,.... phy. exam.....) i will be taking RNSG Basic Nursing Skills I, which is a prereq for the fall adn classes coming up. Our orientation is not until May 18th. Everyone have a great summer....and to those already starting good luck.

Specializes in Ante-Intra-Postpartum, Post Gyne.

Having already worked in the medical field I already have my health care CPR, two stethascopes... I do need to get clinical scrubs, I am sure the ones I already have will not work, well, maybe the plan green one I already have since that is the school's color, but I could use another one.

I already have my immunizations. I just have to get a copy of my MMR records(hep B and varacella I have titer records already) I will need to get that physical.

I will continue to work in the medical office I have been working at since 2002. I did tell them I was not going to work Mondays so I could do any weekend trips, since they will be the last in a while. I have a trip planned in august before school starts to see the fam in the Midwest. Other than that I plan to relax while I can.

We do not have orientation yet, they said they would contact us again later in the summer. I am excited to, and nervous!

Specializes in acute care for elders, general medicine.

I'm going to continue working until probably a week or two before school starts. Now my main focus is getting bills paid off, trading in my shiney new car for an older, more economical one, and saving money. Fun stuff like that :)

I'm also very eager to buy stuff for school. I've been out of school for almost 5 years now, so I'm excited to go back!

Specializes in Operating Room.

I'll start my ADN program August 28th! :balloons:

This summer I'll either take a break, or take statistics. Stats is my last course I need to apply for the RN to BSN bridge program (after becoming an RN) at UT at Arlington.

I have my CPR and immunizations, except for an updated PPD I have to get before August 24th.

I will try my best to take the 1-day classes offered for newly-accepted Nursing students such as a Math for Health Professionals, and a Keys for Success course. :D

Good luck everyone!

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

If I had time this summer I would take a Sign Language class or Spanish. Katie
