I figured I would just like to post to keep hope alive for some of you. I'm not a nurse yet, Though I'm attempting to become a crna. I see alot of individuals posting about how they are having a hard time finding a job. What you must realize is that you will eventually get a job, nothing stays the same for ever, I can assure you that. As long as you are a hardworking individual and are doing the things that you need to be doing to stay ahead of the curve, you will be just fine. I will tell you that I have never had a problem getting a job and I believe because it is my outlook and that I'm hardworking. Ask yourself these questions and you will see that you shouldn't be that concerned.
1. Do you really think that you will go forever without a job in a nursing career after graduation?
HIGHLY UNLIKELY
2. have you ever been in a situation and thought you would never get out of a tough situation?
EVERYTHING ALWAYS WORKS ITSELF OUT IN TIME
3. If everything has always worked it's way out in the past why would this be the exception?
It IS NOT.

My trust fund ran out so I am falling apart. I am hanging out at rock bottom right now and a bit tired of false reassurance and empty promises. I have tried near everything.

Plenty of people who are "hardworking and have the right outlook" are out of work right now. Plenty of unemployed new grads are doing ALL the right things. The problem is the economic climate we find outselves in. Unfortunately, a good outlook and hardworking background is not going to change what the hospitals are doing currently.
I'm sure you are trying to be helpful, but you are giving false reassurances when you have no idea what people's circumstances are. How do you know everything will all be all right? These situations can have devastating impacts on people's lives. You are incorrect in saying everything in life works itself out in time.

I don't think the OP was trying to downplay the devastation being out of work causes. Especially when you've got student loans coming due, kids to take care of, and bills piling up.
What she was saying is it will get better... you will find work. It may not be what you want out of the gate, but things will get better.

HIGHLY UNLIKELY This part I agree with.
EVERYTHING ALWAYS WORKS ITSELF OUT IN TIME No, things don't always "work themselves out". Why would they?
It IS NOT. As I said, things don't always "work themselves out". There is no magical force in the universe with the ability to direct or change events, so sometimes things don't end well. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, and it's often a result of coincidence, being in the right/wrong place and the right/wrong time, or pure luck.
Wow- I would have loved to have a trust fund in the first place.
Right now new graduates across the board (in all fields) can't find work. The job market will change... it's not a false reassurance or empty promise.. unfortunately, it doesn't mean much in the here in now.

I don't know why it continues to amaze me at how negative people can be. I see someone trying to be positive and all some people can do is complain. I understand that the economy sucks. But that will never give anyone the right to just be plain mean and have a negative word to say. My mother has always said..If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all! WOW!

If these posters are what you call "mean" you might not be ready for all the 'not so nice' treatment you get from management, patients, doctors and staff of all departments you encounter daily as an RN.
People are speaking from experience so they DO have 'the right' to say a negative word. We acknowledge that OP was trying to keep the spirits of jobless RN's up but it's wrong to say everything always works out.

What I think is *mean* is that even some RN's with experience (myself included) are having trouble finding F/T jobs.
I read a post on here today by an RN with no experience who has been looking for medical work for awhile. It was suggested that she could get some medical experience by volunteering in a third world country. The poster said that she actually had been thinking of volunteering in a hospital in South America to get experience. Working for free is what they are doing in the Philippines due to the over saturation of RN's. It's sad and devaluing that some US RN's are thinking of volunteering just to get experience and a toe in the door.

It is painfully obvious the the op is not a new grad RN. Ignorance is bliss. You are so right OP, there is a nursing shortage, plenty of jobs! No need to worry everything is fab. There is a difference between being an optomist and being a realist.
