Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) - Fall 2022

Published

Hey y’all!! I’m taking prerequisites and I’m hoping to apply by May 2022 Lord willing. I noticed that the previous program started a post and figured why not get one started for the next class. I’ll update this post when I apply and if/when I get accepted.

Oh that’s so cool! Congrats on getting into the testing and interview phase! What did the second part entail for the respiratory program?
I’m not surprised that the class size is so small, my dental office both my hygienists there graduated from the FSW dental hygienist program and their class size is only 16 ?

Interesting that they didn’t specify how many applicants there were and how many made it into the next phase. I was honestly surprised they did it for the nursing program. I wasn’t expecting them to specify how many applied and how many got through to the next step.

Respiratory it’s a Watson Glasser test which is random questions about random stuff nothing healthcare focused. Like if the 15th President blank wasn’t president who was the running candidate and how likely were they to have been successful. Literally a question I’m sure I got wrong cuz who knows that! But they take your overall college GPA and then the 4 classes for science GPA like nursing. Tally it with work history and experience and you get to level 2 which is the interview and a drug/background screen which is insane to make someone pay but not officially accept them but yea that’s it. They go to school year round no summers off for the 2 years duration.

LOL, what a random testing process. Yeah the nursing program at least let’s you know if you’ve been provisionally accepted before you move into the drug/background check process so you’re not paying for something that might not even matter. I was kinda happy that the nursing program

1. doesn’t include your overall GPA in their GPA calculation process because my nursing GPA is a solid .25 higher than my overall GPA so I was able to get more points

2. they give you the summers off. It’s definitely one of the reasons I didn’t even bother applying to FGCU because I don’t think I could do 5 semesters consecutively without a break. ?

I forgot to mention this, but during my group interview, there were all CNAs, 1 LPN, & 1 computer tech. I was surprised. I would think that the CNAs & LPNs would score higher already being in the field. Just a thought. I am not in the med field so I felt like I had pretty stiff competition. My group (for the most part) did very well in the interviews.

Hey Jessica! How did you know they were in those positions in the interview? My group was a pretty even playing field.

There were also 2 girls in my interview that had some sort of hospital/clinical experience they talked about. They didn’t go into detail what their job description was but one used to be a medical scribe (seemingly moved up into another position), another is a medical assistant, and the other also works for Lee health in some capacity. I can’t remember if the other girl was in the field as well or not.

Most of our answers were pretty strong in our own ways. The only one that I would say wasn’t the strongest was due to a language barrier but her answers were as cohesive as they could be. Did they give you your interview score at the end?

Each person mentioned their profession in one of their answers. They did not give us interview scores. There was one person in our group that I felt struggled with the interview and technology (Zoom) that may have hurt her score but everyone else was a strong contender.

Ah, that makes sense!! It was kinda the same for us. The way I found out was through a question they asked “what was a difficult situation you were in and how did you overcome it?” 2 girls directly talked about clinical experiences. Although I don’t feel their experience in health care made them stronger candidates in our interview. The way everyone presented themselves and answered in unique ways really set the tone.

The technical difficulties is so unfortunate, one of the girls internet cut out and we missed half of her answer /:

I was concerned something like that would happen to me since I live in an area without a lot of power surges but luckily it was fine. I’m debating whether to email Sarah or not for my interview score although I feel I did really well — no less than an 18

I'm sure you will be fine re your interview. I bet (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) is swamped trying to tally everything.

Yeah I feel like she’s probably a busy bee LOL.
I feel confident between all 4 of my scores, I got in I’m more concerned about getting my first choice just because it’s so close to my house and super practical for me to attend Lee vs Collier/Charlotte!

If anyone else has done their interview I would love to hear about it.

As always, I’m rooting for everyone!

Hello everyone, I have my interview today. Any tips ? I’m completely nervous

Test out your Zoom early just in case! One girl had a problem. Otherwise, it's definitely laid back so don't be nervous. Good luck!!

Also, definitely mention you are a CNA. Also, where did you go to CNA school? @Samoya16
