So who here will be starting the program at Valencia in Spring of 2011. I figured this would be a good place to share our excitement and questions.... because that e-mail we just got with our orientation materials was kind of over whelming lol.:yeah:

Congrats to everyone who has gotten into the program!!! I wanted to know if someone can list the books that will be needed. It seems its a long list some listed as optional, and some are required. Perhaps i can start reading before starting the program.

Will do =) I know how anxious I got waiting for my orientation and everything else to come around.

I still need to get khakis for our lab uniform, a new lab coat because I don't like the fit on mine (and sew on the patch), get some white long sleeve shirts for when its cold on our lab days and read about 70 more pages in the fundamentals books.

I'm also waiting on 2 books that the book store still does not have in stock. The name pins that we are required to wear on lab days are also not ready yet.

Just a little tip for anyone going into the program soon, I'm sure pretty soon you guys will start doing your physical and what not. Keep this in mind that the TB screening expires.... I made the mistake of being so anxious to get everything done that I went in and got everything done in February of last yr, not realizing that now in about a month I'm going to have to go in and get another one.

The TB, tetorifice, CPR certification and fit testing all expire. You have your orientation about 2 months before classes start and about 2-3 weeks before orientation you will get an e-mail listing everything that needs to be done. In that there will be a website where you upload all of your records like physical, immunizations, etc. Anytime one of your immunizations, CPR or anything like that is going to expire it will e-mail you and let you know.

I will tell you right now, if you wanna save a little :twocents: don't bother getting the Taber's dictionary, the diagnostic test and labs, or the Kee pharm study guide. I haven't used any of them and I'm starting Nur 4. I would recommend, however, getting the Fundamentals success. Very helpful when it comes to those initial nclex style test questions. For the 2nd semester definitely get the Pharm flash cards and Med-surg success (if you found the fundamentals success helpful). Good luck! :yeah:

Can I ask you guys how long it took you to get into the Nursing program? I spoke with an advisor at VCC who told me the wait now is at least two years

I'm sitting on the fence about what to do with regard to nursing school. I graduate VCC at the end of this semester, and trying to decide if I should go to UCF, finish my pre-reqs, and pray; or head to another university altogether and hope the competition isn't as insane.

Thanks!

I don't know. I saw that too, but then I read a prior message that said that you had to wait till after the orientation to select a class. I'm not too sure about that. Did you get the email to let us know that the orientation is on April 1 in the AM at West Campus.

yuppp! i got that one !! sooo excited :]

Just wondering if anybody got the email with the orientation packet. I got it and it's a little confusing. Has anybody uploaded to Magnus?

My suggestion about Herzing is not to waste your time and MONEY when you can go somewhere else better. I went to their RN info session and I actually walked out as I was discourage. Yes it is true that you are accepted to the program from the get go if you meet all the requirements, however it is like $7500+ per semester, you don't get to keep your books (as the are loaned to you) and you only get like 2 uniforms. Oh and they have a "block" schedule setting. I personally if I have to wait 2 years at VCC (since I am just going to start my pre-reqs for RN program and then apply as soon as met them) I will go back to Keiser University to just do the RN program portion. I have graduated from there with AS in Medical Assisting and I would definetly recommend Keiser anytime. But no Herzing, specially when I heard they have had their RN licensure suspended to teach the program 2 times already. Why would you risk that?
