University of Miami Hospital and VA Hospital

U.S.A. Florida

Published

hello all! :)

i've posted before, but i guess the recent threads went with the changes. but no biggie :smokin:

okay, so this is my gripe, i'll try to rewrite as best i can:

i'm a big dreamer, so if my "dreams" are over the hill for my current status...let's just say i'll forgive you if you yell at me for it lol

i'm soon to graduate from an lpn program, and i would basically like to know if anyone knows about how the employment of lpn's is over at the university of miami hospital. i know, i know..for one, i should go for the rn as that would give me more chances, and two, how do i expect to be hired at such an awesome hospital if i'm brand new. i ask anyway.

i would also like to know how it at the va hospital because i've seen that they do hire lpn's, but i'd like to know exactly what their duties consist of (i ask because one position says the typical duties of med administration and procedures, etc, while the other lists bathing and turning patients). get me drift?

salaries for both would be a plus if anyone has any idea what these two employers pay a new grad lpn.

thanks, and i'm glad this forum is back.

I can answer part of your question.....Most hospitals are not hiring LPNs anymore as they need the supervision of an RN so they just now are hiring RNs. From what I understand, they are really pushing LPNs to be employed in SNF or clinics. I do not know about the VA as I don't know anyone who has worked there or have worked there myself. Hope this helps.

I wanted to edit the above post, but I cannot find how to do it. I meant the University of

Miami School of Medicine, not the University of Miami Hospital. Sorry :/

Specializes in Peds, Med-Surg, Disaster Nsg, Parish Nsg.

Do you want the title changed or the body of the post?

both :/

yes, the va hires lpn's..but it's not easy to get your foot in the door. i doubt um hospital hires lpn's but the sylvester center does!

good luck!

Hi FLLPN339, thanks so much for your tip! Are you currently working in Miami as an LPN? Also, do you know how much the sylvester center pays LPNs? Other than knowing someone, how could someone get their foot in the door at the VA--sorry for asking I'm inexperienced.

Thanks for your replies!

hi fllpn3339, i replied to your pm, but since i haven't posted enough threads, i don't think it went through. my question was (i'm to ask so much but you know how it is!) about the friend you said that got paid that amount in sylvester, did your friend have any prior experience? the reason i ask is because although va was pretty up front about their salary, when i called um they denied me any information regarding it. the salary range they post for that position online is $13.67 -$26 something. pretty big range with a steep low end.

i hope you can receive this response fllpn3339 and thanks again :)
