UNF Summer 2011 Accelerated BSN Hopeful

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello. I am hoping to get into UNF for the summer of 2011. I have taken the TEAS and am taking all of the pre-req courses. I am curious what other people got on their TEAS V and what their Pre-Req GPA is that are also trying to get into the accelerated program this summer. Also, any ideas on what the group interview will be like and what questions will be asked?

Hello. This is the first time I have posted anything, but I have been reading all your posts since the interview process has started, and I have found them very helpful. I am sorry to hear that some of you did not get into UNF. Like many of you I did not have a backup plan, other than to reapply in the Fall. I want a BSN and I am not willing to go into serious debt to attain one, and I have a have a family, so I could not relocate. I did get into the traditional program. I have a 4.0 prereq GPA, but I am still working on 3 prereqs this semester. I did slightly better than average on the TEAS, but not spectacular since I was only one month into any of my science classes at the time I took the test and I need a calculator for math. I thought my interview was awful and until I got my letter I was stressing over everything I said and what I should have said instead. My friend I carpooled with was actually in the same interview group with me, we were a little concerned at first because we practiced together a bit. We were able to give each other feedback after the interview which was nice. She said I was a bit chatty. I can totally believe that. I felt chatty, but couldn't stop myself. My friend also got in. I thought she did great. I did have a story about integrity. When I was newly promoted at work I had to turn in a supervisor for stealing and other things. My friend did not have a story. She said she has never encountered this problem because people generally know her principles up front and don't act that way around her. Some people in our group felt a little scripted. I am not sure if they got in, but I would think the interviewers would want you to be yourself, honest and ingaged in the conversation. I responded to a couple things other candidates said. Also one lady had to be reminded it was her turn to talk, twice! The rest of us had gone so we were all looking her way and she said "oh I guess it's my turn to talk." The other time she thought she answered but her answer wasn't what they were asking, so after everyone was done one of the interviewers asked if she would like to answer the question, yikes. Good luck to everyone and I look forward to meeting some of you in May.

I wish our group had been more like a discussion, as it seems your group was. I think that is how they wanted it to be, but, in our group the panel leader kept saying they were "pressed for time." So, add that pressure to the pressure we already had, and, oh yeah, you're supposed to hurry up and give an answer...I mean, come on. That was just not fair to us. I thought my group did really well, considering. Congrats on getting in! :yeah:

The first question that was asked we answered in order around the table, then after that we just chimed in whenever. Our group was the last to go, but towards the end they did say we had to wrap it up. We didn't get to ask questions like they said we would, but oh well. I didn't have a good one prepared anyway.

My friend also got in. It was really difficult for me to interview with her. I know they said it wasn't a direct competition between everyone in our group, but you couldn't help but feel it was. I really wanted her to get in, but naturally I wanted to shine during the interview as well. It worked out well in the end.

It will be interesting to see our school schedules. I have two little girls I have to worry about getting to school as well as picking up for school, so I am anxious to see what the schedule will look like. If schedule permits my friend and I will be carpooling. We are both coming from St. Augustine if anyone else is interested let me know.

I started a facebook page for our traditional prelicensure class. If you and your friend are interested just do a search for UNF Nursing: Fall 2012.

I didn’t really like the fact that they will not give you any feedback about your interview. It’s like taking a test and not knowing your score or what you got wrong.

It’s frustrating because all you can do is speculate about why you didn’t get a good interview score. Was it my age? What I was wearing? How I talk? All of my answers? One particular answer? Did I remind her of someone she doesn’t like? Not enough eye contact? Too much eye contact? LOL………..

I’ve received feedback from other schools about essays and interviews and it’s helped me a lot. I just think it would be nice if they could tell us something since some of us spent a lot of time and money to travel there for the interview.

In my opinion, it just raises a red flag to me that they will not give you any feedback….makes you wonder what criteria is really being used to evaluate applicants.

So are you definite on UNF or are you still waiting on UCF? I feel my waitlist @ UNF is a blessing in disguise because it makes my decision easier and I am really starting to see that between the two, UCF is better for me.

To marycnew:

You should apply to the Fall 2011 USF accelerated class.

If we both get in, you won't be the oldest! :)

Yeah, i'm definite on UNF. I am going to keep my application in at UCF just in case something happens to where i can't attend UNF (injury, death in the family, etc.).

Moganandsydneysmom......where are you coming from in St. Augustine? I live on CR 210 West and may be interested in a carpool.

I hear you on the schedule thing....I've got 4 kids (oldest at UNF and youngest in Kindergarten) and the logistics might be interesting!

I am coming from the southern end of the county, North of 206, but South of 207 off US1. My friend that will probaly also carpool is off SR 16. My younger daughter will be in kindergarten next school year! Definately my girls will be my biggest challenge. My husband is a bit of a workaholic, so its mainly me that takes them to school and picks them up. It will be okay, I have to make it work!

Morganandsydneysmom.....have you looked into the UNF sports and rec camp for kids? They take ages 5 and up and it is a really great place for kids to go for the summer. I've enrolled my 5 and 8 year olds. They have a student price!

You have quite a drive! Looking forward to meeting you and everyone else!

Hi everyone,

Im fairly new to posting on this blog but i've been following along with you guys since December. Congratulations everyone who's been accepted.. :monkeydance: Like most of you I applied to several schools ( JU, UNF and MUSC) and so far I've been accepted to both MUSC (Medical University of SC) and UNF RPL program also, but I originally applied for accelerated. Now I have a really big decision to make... For those who have been waitlisted stay hopeful because it's likely you're next on the list. I will make my final decision by this weekend and I hope its a blessing for one of you if I decide to give up my seat. Good Luck... to all of you.

Flhusker i'm curious what time did you interview and which group.
