UF's Generic BSN Program Fall 2012

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi Guys! I haven't seen any threads for this coming fall semester for UF, so i decided to start one.

I'll start by saying my name is Naomi & I have applied for entry into the GENERIC Fall 2012 BSN program. I'm a Jacksonville, FL native and I am praying for this acceptance so I can get started with nursing school, finish, and start my career. I am super excited because I love Gainesville and UF. I think it is a terrific school, as I have a few friends who attend there. When I applied I had a 3.31 overall GPA, and I'm not quite sure how to calculate my science GPA, (if anyone can help me with that, I'll definitely appreciate it!) but I feel I wrote a great essay, so hopefully along with that and my prayers, I will get accepted. I am already claiming it!

Well, I wish you guys who applied the best of luck and I hope to see you all this coming fall semester. =)

I guess this can be a means of communication for those out there with any questions or comments regarding the application/review process, or anything else you're curious to know.

Good luck!

- Naomi

Hi NaomiD!

I am a current nursing student at UF seeking employment at Baptist Health-Downtown in Jacksonville. I am currently looking for an apartment near the hospital but I am having trouble since IDK anyone from Jacksonville. Do you know of anybody leasing their apartments around the area or of anybody I could contact to find an apartment there? Any help would be greatly appreciated :). Also, if you have any questions about UF's nursing program, let me know. I'll try my best to answer any of your questions. Thank you!

Naomi,

I would definitely recommend applying to USF too. It is a late admission decision but you can never have too many back-ups. =) It can't hurt anything, and it's nice to have a cushion =) I heard USF actually bases a lot on your essay and experience. GPA does play a part but I heard of people with 4.0's be declined and 3.5's getting in! USF's application opened yesterday but you have to be accepted at USF first to apply, which won't take long!..

For the living situations, it depends on what your budget is. I know a lot of places to the westside of campus, two that are fairly high in price but very nice, and 1 that is decent and a good price. There is perfect bus routes to and from campus. I have friends who live on The District On 62nd, The Woodlands, and Canopy Apartments. I like them all, my favorite being the woodlands. If you google them you can get a lot of information about them and location and everything!

I know of some apartment complexes but I don't know much about but you can google them too! The Laurels, Oxford Manor, Gainesville Place, Lexington Apartments. Just to name a few but there are plenty! Let me know how your search goes!

Naomi,

I agree with Kayteammarie. USF bases their decision 60% on GPA, pre-req GPA, and 40% on the essay. I have also heard of 4.0's denied and lower GPAs accepted because of the weight of the essay. In the essay, you have a chance to talk about your experiences. They don't have to necessarily be volunteer experiences, either. For example: personal achievements, working to support yourself, or anything showing responsibility and/or leadership. Even if you only think you have a small chance, it's worth the shot. I would recommend applying ASAP because, for me, it took USF about 2-3 weeks to process all of my general application to be accepted. If you need the essay prompt for the separate nursing portion (SOAR application after general admission) to get a head start on that, you can PM me! It's open until June 15th!

Kayteamarie,

Thanks for giving us the generous tips on the living situations!

Hey everyone. I applied to the program and some other schools in Florida. It said on UF's website that the letters of acceptance would be mailed out around June 9th. So curious to see if I will get in. I know it is very competitive, just like all the other schools. Good luck to everybody!

hI. I know you guys are so excited to get accepted into the nursing program!!!!!!! Wish you guys luck. I'm currently in the nursing program and am subleasing my place from may to aug if you guys are intersted. its a 2/2 apartment and my roommate is in nursing to for 400 a month. Everything included! you can text me at 305-915-8579

Hey guys!

I'm also anxiously awaiting for the week of June 9th. I currently live in Gainesville with my husband who is getting his masters in engineering. I moved to FL from Connecticut and ended up really liking the idea of nursing school at UF.

Finding a place to live in Gainesville is crazy easy, and cheap :)

I applied to FAU too, but didn't get it. I wasn't expecting to though because they only take 40 students! AHHH!

Best of luck to you all!

-Carrie

Is there anyone willing to share their GPA?

Good luck to everyone!

Good luck to everyone!

I have a 4.0 GPA but it doesn't make me any less nervous! I would be very lucky to be admitted into this program.

I have a 3.9, and I definitely agree with MrFocker! I can't believe how fast everything is going and in almost a month we will all know if we got in or not. Good luck to everyone!!

It's coming up soon! I'm very nervous but it certainly does help to talk with others in the same situation. I have a 4.0 as well and I couldn't agree more. Clearly, there is a lot of competition! My chances are slimmer as I am a transfer. Crossing my fingers!

Hi everyone! I will be applying to nursing schools next year and I read this page out of curiosity. When you guys are talking about GPAs are you talking about cumulative or prereq? my prereq GPA is a 4.0 but my cumulative is a 3.8 so I don't really know what my chances are. I would also be a transfer to UF so I understand that that significantly decreases my chances but hey, a girl can dream and work hard, right? :)
