Florida International University FEP to BSN

U.S.A. Florida

Published

hello everyone,

i am a MD from a foreign country who just immigrated to USA.

I want to stay in the medical field and i m planning to apply to this program :

http://fep.fiu.edu/

However i have few questions regarding it.

Is it accepted by all states?

I mean the site mentions that it is recognised by florida but it doesnt mention any other state.

Also do they expect you to work in one of their hospital after the program is complete?

Any input big or small would be appreciated !! :)

FIU is a state college...It isnt a private or little college. If you get a degree there...it is a "real" degree that is valid in any state.

What you are reading is the licensing for Fl. It is the same as any RN license. You may have reciprocity in another state but each state will have their own rules on whether or not you need to get a new license.

It is accredited.

Yes. The BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), One Dupont Circle, Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036-1120, (202) 887-8476, and approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing, (4052 Bald Cypress Way, BIN CO2, Tallahassee, FL 32399, 850-245-4125).

Thank you!

I am applying for this program. It would be really great if i get accepted.

They conduct interviews for admissions so its different as i read very few nursing programs have interviews ! I dont know if it is true or not.

It needs 3 pre-requisites : statistics, human growth & development across the life span, human nutrition.

Is it possible to complete them before october 1st 2014 if i start in the spring semester?

Thank you!

You can take all those classes together and then you have time to do your testing right after. If you take them in Jan you will be done by May.

Thank you again!

I came across another link which confuses me little bit.

Under FAQs it says i will have to take these pre-reqs:

http://cnhs.fiu.edu/nursing/undergraduate_basic_track_equivalent.html

However under admission requirements it says this :

Successfully complete the following nursing pre-requisites (with grade of C or above): statistics, human growth & development across the life span, human nutrition. Transcripts will be evaluated by the College of Nursing.

I think i will have to call them for proper info on this particular topic unless someone here knows about it :)

I have emailed them but the lady who is responding doesnt seem much knowledgeable.

I am in the FIU FEP BSN-MSN program its a great program for foreign physicians and yes it is a "Real" program. Most of the pre-reqs can be done in one semester some can be done online(miami dade college) but u should check the course with them before u take it. And the people in the office are super nice and always ready to help you.pm me if u need any other info

Hello Philadelphiaeagles

Thanks for your nice review. I start preparing application for 2014 Fall. Could you please share your thoughts on my concerns below

What are the chances of getting a job there? As all of us may need to maintain our family.

What type of part time or full time job the FEP BSN/MSN student usually do?

Is it possible to keep a full time job while studying this program?

Where do most students live at FIU?

I was wondering if you could spare some time to respond my concerns at your convenience. I am sure this information will be very helpful for many other like me to make a decision.

I do appreciate your time and cooperation

sorry been busy with the fall session i just saw ur post: but jobs aren't that hard to find u just have to look around. most of us have either part time or full time jobs and although its not recommended it is necessary for some. Some of us work in labs, medical clinics, insurance companies whatever we find................the program is pretty intense but you will survive with a job. and most of the students are local so they either live with their families or by themselves. Apartments are cheaper than fiu dorms - check craigslist. hope it was useful

I am in the same situation like all the people above , one of my complain is that the advisor for this specific program Shamika Duet is not knowledgable and very rude, and I have such a hard time to get Infos from her. , in fact she was discouraging me to apply for the program , I frankly do not know with all the pool of employees looking for a job. , why they have put her there , and I complained about her but she seems well connected there and every body was saying that I. Have no choice, but to deal with her, and try it your self and see if I am wrong, but the program seems fantastic. , I hope I will be able to get in

anyone know how long is this program is?

hello everyone. I hope I am not too late to post here. I am new to the forum and here is my first post.

Just to share some of the info I have gleaned from my research as I am also interested in this program.

1st: Yes Shamika Duet is teh advisor for this specific program and not very open to speak. But hey this is our future so it is not some miscommunication that should hold us up. Moreover from phea's comment it looks like it is a very good program and that is the most important.

2nd: from my research it is a 2year lock step program to a BSN with an option to continue for a master (add another year in this case).

my question however is how open is the program to non Florida resident as I am now living in GA?

can fep student do their master in CRNA?

btw Shamika is awesome, maybe a bit overworked. This program is 5 semesters to BSN and 3 semesters to MSN - 2 and a half years
