There is a informative session? When exactly is it? I would definitely love to go!

An informative session? Awesome I would love to go to. I bet it is at north campus. Sorry to hear you didn't get in to fall semester either. With over 200 points for spring you will for sure get in :)

Yeah, I also applied and left behind...By Spring I'll have 204, but I am affraid because they only take about 50 applicants, that is roughly 1/3 of the number at Fall. What if the cut off goes sky high? Anybody knows? I would also like to sneak in the fall orientation to learn more about scheduling and other things, because after our orientation, things gonna speed up pretty well.

The cut off for Spring term is 144, and last spring term the cut off was 189 it all depends on who is applying and etc. Out of all the semester, Summer semester is the hardest to get into because they only accept 96 students

i need some advice please...

i wanted to ask if anyone had any advice for someone starting out. i have a full time job so my schedule will be part time and i haven't been in school on 12 years. so any advice about prerequisites, general education classes or professors (good or bad) would be appreciated. how many classes can you do part time? do classes require a lot of outside class time? (studying/projects) i spoke with someone at fccj and they said you have a better chance of getting in if you do all of your prerequisite and general education classes before applying to get more points plus it's harder to do them once in the nursing program. i have been in the medical field for 15 years so i have a lot of medical knowledge. i know which classes i need but i don't know how many i can handle at once. of course i want to do it in the least amount of time but i don't want to sacrifice my grades by doing too much at once.

if i have figured it correctly i would need 10 classes before applying. (including general ed classes for extra points)

chemistry

human anatomy & physiology i

human anatomy & physiology ii

microbiology

college algebra

english comp

general psychology

humanities

human growth & development

intro sociology

i know everything is subjective however i would like to know your opinions and experiences. how long did it take you to complete pre-reqs? did you complete all pre-reqs and general ed classes before applying? which classes did you take online? i see on preious posts that it says not to name professors but if you wouldn't mind private messaging me on that topic it would be appriecated since the difficulty of the class sometimes has to with the professor.

well sorry for the long post and lots of questions but it's kinda scary thinking about going back to school after all this time.

oh one more thing...

are you going to the informative session in a few weeks?

is this informative session open for everyone? if so, when and where is it?

thanks a bunch everyone!!! :nurse:

Hello,

I am also from the Fall 09. I don't know what my status is, in or out, since I still have not received a letter at all. The cut off for the Fall was 190.72 and there were 668 applicants for about 160 seats. So you can bet that a majority of the remaining 500 will apply in the Spring as well. Priority counties are Duval and Nassau. So if you live in any other county you better make sure you are applying with something like 220 points. I had 208 and live in Clay. I think I saw someone in Clay county with 216 as the lowest that got in. There may be more but they aren't posting. Someone said that they were only allowing 20% of out of counties a seat so about 30 or so seats. I hate to be a kill-joy but I am a firm believer in letting people know what they are up against. I am so mad and frustrated because I worked so hard to get good grades in pre-reqs. 2 of them they transfered in from 20 years ago and that cost me 9 points! Plus this waiting for some word from that lousy school stinks. They are rude, unorganized, waiting until the last minute, and unprofessional to hard working students. Ah, I'm bitter, can you tell! See FCCJ Fall 09 the last 10 pages or so and you will see what I mean.

Sorry to scare you all!!

Olivia,

The top 4 on your list are the hardest classes and I recommend you taking them all seperate. But if you are trying to cut time and do all these courses on a part time basis, I would take Chem with a lab and an online class for any of the rest not in your first 4, like English. Then A and P 1 with an easy online, then A and P 2 with an online easy class. Finish up with Micro and another online easy class. You are still looking at 4 semesters of part time school with working part time. Any faster and you compromise your grades which effects your points and your chances of getting a seat in the RN program. For every letter grade lower than an A you lose 3 points toward your entrance points in the RN program. Hope that helps. I don't work and I never took more than 1 hard class with 1 or 2 easy classes.

Oh and I am 39 and have 18 years medical experience, so I know what you mean about going back to school jitters. If you want it bad enough, nothing will stop you. Good Luck!

Olivia,

Congratulations on starting to take your pre reqs :) I myself went to school part time to finish my classes. I took two and sometimes three classes (if all were easy). For your situation I would recommend two classes at a time. All of the sciences ecspecially AP one and two should be taken with an easy class such as ENC1101. ENC, Human Growth, PSY, and SOC are all EASY online. Make sure your go to ratemyprofessor.com to get a great teacher. I also recommend hybrid classes. You typically go once a week and do the rest online (both of best worlds!). I hope this helps!

Sarah

Thanks SaraW88 but I haven't started yet I am considering starting fall or spring. If I do 2 classes a term that will take 5 terms I really want to do it faster than that but maybe that's not possible.

Just remember.....this thread should have been FSCJ Spring 2010. FCCJ is officially history! :wink2::D

Got a call from CJ today. Left a message Monday and get a call back Friday. With all that is going on there at the school I can understand why. Needless to say, I didn't get in. To far down on the out of county list with 208 points. Oh well, will retake the Nat and see what happens in the spring all though with 96 seats I am not expecting much. I have a better chance with SJRCC and 2 fewer classes. If I move to Duval can anyone tell me what I need to show that I live where I live? I know driver's license but do I need to show a utility bill also or what? Do I need to be living at an address for a while or does it matter?

Thanks for any info.
