can FL license be changed to inactive and how to do it

  1. I hold a Florida license and it is time for renewal. I am not working in Florida- I usually renew and send in CEU thats requested with it. I am working in AZ and my job doesnt require CEUs. So can I switch my FL license to inactive? I cant find any info on the Florida Board website. I have tried calling the office for days and no one ever answers. The expiration date is July 31st. I dont want to lose my license. Can anyone help me out?

Yes, you can. In fact, if you are a resident of AZ the FL board of nursing likely wouldn't let you renew.

Why not? Many states allow non-residents to hold licenses. How else would travelers or those who work telephonic jobs covering multiple states be able to work?

Because both AZ and FL are members of the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

ok- So my original license was from NY. It has been inactive for years. I had a VA license for the past 11 years but that is no longer current since I moved to Arizona this past year. I have held a FL one for years but I have not worked in the state. So because AZ is NLC, you are saying I cant continue to hold a FL one even as inactive?? I just wish I could get through to the Board to get a solid answer. Thanks for responding.

Yes, because both AZ and FL are members of the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC), if you are a resident of AZ, you cannot be licensed in FL. Your VA license was inactivated when you moved to AZ. As FL is a new member in the eNLC you were allowed to keep your FL license as a single state license through the current licensure period, at which time it will be inactivated aa well. If you relocate to either FL or VA, you will be allowed to work on your AZ license while your new state license is being activated.
