U.S.A. Florida

Does anyone have information on this program? I applied and I will be having an interview with Baptist next week. I was just wondering who will be conducting the panel interview and what questions I can expect............

Any information on the program itself. How are the teachers, clinicals, etc.etc.

Any helpful hints for me if Im accepted.....................;)

Im a Miami Dade College student and I applied for the On-Site Scholar program at Baptist....

Thanks :hbsmiley:

Valky.....Actually everything turned out for the BEST...I got accepted to the UM Hospital Scholars Program...everything paid for....classes at Medical campus, all the books, uniforms, lab jacket, scrubs, Littmann stethoscope, watch, BP cuff, penlight and shoes!!! :lol2:

I understand, Baptist turned around and did not pay for any of this stuff for their scholars, and they did not reimburse. :uhoh3:

We have to give them back 2 years to UM hospital, but hey, it's a job...and you have to put your time in anyways...and in the end, you are a UM employee! :D

Clinicals will be done at UM Hospital (a teaching and research hospital)...so there are great opportunities there to be exposed to many types of patients.

....for the previous post...these nursing scholars positions at Baptist and UM are not offered out right to anyone....you have to be accepted to the Miami Dade Nursing program first....then, MDC has a contract with these hospitals to provide them with their top students...which have then you have to fill out several applications, write and essay, and go to an interview process.

Specializes in ICU, Telemetry, neuro,research.

You have to apply to Baptist for their scholar program. But, you also have to apply to and be accepted by Miami Dade College. Then you may have a choice as to whether to attend Miami Dade College on their Medical Campus downtown by Jackson Memorial or to attend classes at the Main Baptist Hospital Campus on Kendall Drive. You may apply to Barry, UM, or Fiu and if you are accepted by FIU, Baptist will pay the whole way for school at FIU and if you are accepted by UM or Barry, and you receive the Baptist Scholar Scholarship, you will get a portion of it. When I was a Baptist scholar and I attended and graduated from UM in 2004, I received $7500 from Baptist toward my nursing education. I worked for Baptist for one year after I graduated and they considered that paying them back. If you do not work for them for the time they designate, then you have to pay back whatever Baptist invested in you. If I can help with more information, let me know.

Im seeking to go to to nursing school and many people have told me about the Baptist Program. I am a bit confused, (lol) do i need to be enrolled to MDC, Barry or UM's nursing program to get to the Baptist program or does Baptist do their own thing where i can apply to them and then do this horrible interview that everyone is saying.

Please let me know....:)

Thank You!

Hi there. I am in my second semester as a Baptist scholar. You have to be accepted into a nursing program before you can apply for Baptist. Once you are accepted, you apply and go through the interview process. The schools they are giving this option to are Fla. Keys Community College, Miami Dade, Barry and Nova. If you get the AS degree with MDC or Fl Keys you are bound to a contract of 2 yrs and if you get BSN with Barry or Nova you owe them 3 years of work. The school they do not pay in full is Barry. They give you 20K for that one. I encourage you to contact the scholars office to make sure this is current information since things are subject to change from semester to semester and info here may be a little outdated. I also encourage you to apply to as many programs as you can, Baptist, UM or whichever. I am sure they all their pros and cons, but ultimately if this is what you really want to do you have to go in with an open mind and have plan a, b, and c. Please remember that although it is great to come on here and get an idea of how things are, everyone is different and their experiences are different. What may not be so great for someone else may turn out to be a great experience for you. Best of luck to you and everyone else on here trying to get into a program. :heartbeat

Thank You so much for the info. Yea im still in the proccess of which school and if i want to do the Baptist Program. But i do know forsure i do want to do nursing! :)

Are part time generic nursing students eligible to apply to this program?

It's does not look like it...only Full Time students were selected this year...even the Accelerated students were not allowed to the Baptist Scholars...but I think a few were allowed in the UM Scholars....nothing for Part Time

Hey everyone,

Are part time generic nursing students eligible to apply to this program?

Thanks! Just wishful thinking. I have not seen many threads from people in the part time program so I am always wondering how it is for them.

Hello,

I had my interview with the Baptist Scholars Program yesterday. Don't be afraid of the questions they will ask, just be ready to answer anything they throw at you. The panel consisted of 5 women (not all of them were Baptist employees, one of them was actually a representative from Barry) They each have their own packet of questions with about 5 pages in total. On each sheet, there are several questions that they can choose from, whichever they choose, they place a check next to it and as you are answering the question, they write down notes at the bottom portion of the paper. (P.s- 90% of the questions are work-related. This is because, if you were to receive the scholarship, you have a 2-3 year working contract with Baptist therefore, they want an idea of how you would handle situations in the workplace.)

Some questions were among the lines of:

- Explain a situation in which you had to go above and beyond in order to complete a project.

- If you and a fellow employee could not agree or see eye to eye, what would you do inorder to resolve this?

- Which is better, creativity or efficiency?

- Which characteristics do you believe a nurse should possess?

- What would you say is your greatest accomplishment?

They asked a few more but I cannot think of them right now! They were all among those lines so you should prepare to answer work-related questions.

I really hope this information helps everyones who is interested in the program and GOODLUCK to all of you, let me know if you need any further information or help. :yeah:
