Alright, I'll start! MDC Fall 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Why hello there, fellow students!

You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!

Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! :x3: " and "Competition! :wideyed: " (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)

Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.

I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.

Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! :o I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!

....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?

GOOD LUCK! :cat:

Stats:

Expected final science GPA: 3.67

TEAS score: n/a

Jay jay,

I completely agree with you, I don't think anyone should get discouraged. I too read the threads from last fall and people got in with overall scores in the low 70's...so we all have a chance!! Oh June can you get here already!????!?

Heyyy! That is a great idea to start early..

Where do we go to do all of these requirements??

Hey everyone! I did the exact same thing as Tati! It's great to find you guys. I'm super nervous and excited. I have it marked on my calendar when I'm going to "allow" myself to start checking my email. :cheeky: My TEAS was a 88 and my GPA is 3.52 and I have a combined score of 88. I applied to the Accelerated Option (AO) and Generic Full-Time. I'm hoping for AO! My gosh, I can't wait to meet you all!!!! I had some amazing friends in my prereqs but sadly no one is starting this Fall. :( Wah!!!

I plan on working on getting my Drug, TB, Titers, CPR, and background check done before the emails come. From what I understand from other posts the wellness center gets a little crazy when everyone starts doing their stuff all at once. (One guy had to wait 3 hours just to get his TB read!!!) Here's a link to all the requirements if you guys want to take a look. Just use it as a guideline because its subject to change. ---> Accelerated - Admission Information - Miami Dade College

Good luck you guys! Oh yeah, quick question anyone else calling MDC to make sure their application was sent without any problems???? My husband knowing my bad luck strongly suggested that I call them. Thoughts?

At the wellness center on campus I think. Here is the link and prices. You can also do the medical stuff at your primary doctor's office. CPR has to be the BLS/CPR that is AHA certified. MDC offers a 6 hour CPR course at several campuses. I think the CPR class is like $75 at MDC. There is a schedule of these classes somewhere on the MDC website but I can't find it for some reason. I'm not sure about the background check yet. These prices for these requirements add up quickly! Hope this helps :)

OK... this should be the right link to MDC's CPR/BLS class schedule. I would call to be sure though.

Thank you!! I registered for 6/1 in the north campus :)) \

these health requirements are a little expensive, 225? I'll probably go to my primary doc, just meed to know which drugs they screen for so I can do it with my insurance.

that's exactly what I was trying to figure out today! I think I'm going to call my insurance to see if they pay for the Titers. And I may do the drug test and TB at school. I agree, these requirements are so expensive!

The deadline was today! Grades for this semester are posted Sunday. The wait officially begins... :whistling:

Hello, I applied for FT generic and FT transitional, anyone else applying for the transitional? Also can everyone posts their overall scores? Well I wish everyone good luck, enjoy the rest of the month and let's start getting nervous after the first week of June

Hey MaryOr and diamondgirlfsu!! I applied to Accelerated and Generic FT. My TEAS was 88 and I'm waiting on my final GPA from this semester.

diamondgirlfsu- which program are you leaning toward? I'm leaning toward accelerated but I have an anxiety attack every time I look at the curriculum for the first semester! Good luck!

Can anyone help me calculate my GPA. I got A in all the classes except one class that I got a B

I messed up, I should've applied for the accelerated as well. I didn't! Oh we'll it's what it's is! My competitive or overalls score is 81.6 %. Teresamaria, your science GPA score is 40% and our TEAS result is 60% added up is your overall or compatible score. Good luck! bsartor.....good chance girl!
