Advice on the BSN program at the University of Miami!!

I was accepted to the University of Miami for the BSN Basic Nursing program. I am a transfer student coming from Los Angeles. What do you think about the school? Do you stay on campus or off campus? Is there anything that you would recommend about staying on or off campus? What have you heard about the traditional(Basic) nursing program?

I went to visit the University of Miami because they're starting up a CRNA program that I was very interested in and I wanted to check out the campus. The main campus is beautiful. It is located in a very cushy part of Miami called Coral Gables, where only people who have a lot of money can afford to live. The school has an excellent reputation. Its very pretty, very big, and very well recognized but also a VERY, VERY expensive private school. The tuition is over $3000 for a 3-credit course, which puts it right up there with the over-the-top Ivy League universities in terms of cost. If they're offering you a scholarship or you can afford to pay out of pocket to go there, then I would say go for it. But, I would think twice about doing the RN program at a school like this if I had to take out student loans to go there. You'd be looking at over $40,000 a year in tuition, fees, and room and board! IMO its kinda outrageous to spend $160,000 for a BSN degree. And this does not include day to day living expenses. I personally don't think its worth it, but thats just my opinion. If you can afford it then go for it!

I lived in South Beach for a few years and got my prereqs done at Miami-Dade College with the ultimate goal to transfer into UMiami SON. It is absolutely beautiful, and a great program I hear. However, the cost factor is huge and if your getting your BSN then your probobaly interested in going even further in a masters program. I ended up transfering back to NY where I am originally from and am currently attending a BSN program for half the cost of UM. If your dead set on attending, I would live off campus in the nearby area. It shoudn't be too hard to find a roomie or rent a studio alone. I would also check out FIU's school of nursing being that it is a much cheaper option and after a year you would be at residents tuition costs. I just think that most college programs are as good as you make them, and cost should be an determining factor. Any more questions just let me know!
