Accelerated OR Generic BSN AT UNIV. MIAMI OR FLORIDA ATLANTIC 2010

U.S.A. Florida

:confused:anybody applying for SUMMER or FALL 2010 acclerated program for university of MIAMI or FLORIDA ATLANTIC..i was wondering if you know what the gpa stats are for both generic and accelerated admission into both schools.....:wink2::typing:banghead:

I only know that generic FAU nursing only accepts about 30 students and something like 500 apply. So, you need a really nice GPA.

its funny cuz i am wondering the exact same thing!!!

FAU and UM state the same requirements on their website. Now here's the deal. Excellent science grades for both. FAU looks only at GPA (too many applicants). Lemme tell you that the ABSN list averaged about 800 when I applied. It is true they only accept the top 30/40. Waiting list is long, and because it is a public university, it pretty much narrows it down to people close to a 4.0, and then those that "know" someone at the school. I have heard through the grapevine, that FAU is extremely political. I know a few awesome students who were accepted there (honors level) as well as a few that had some connections. I'm sure there are many programs out there that are similar.

I think UM takes into consideration everything that you've done. Plus, your letter of recommendation. The fact that UM is private, they may accept more students with the anticipation of enrolling less and losing applicants to public universities , therefore it won't hurt to apply if you are unsure, this may be to your advantage. The questions are: Do you meet the requirements? Do you ace your sciences? Do you have a good recommendation letter from one of your science prereq professors? Do you have a good academic history, and work history (second degree students)? And, do you plan to apply early (earlier the better)? If you say yes to all of these, then you should be good to go, won't hurt to try :)

HI kimberelypink,

how sure are you that U of M looks at letters of recommendation and work history?..i did not see any evidence that they require this at all, I thought they only look at GPA? correct me if im wrong... please

I applied to UM last night and they have space on their app for volunteer/work experience and they need a letter of recommendation before your app is considered complete, so Im sure they look at that. I applied for the second degree traditional track though but the application process is still the same. You also need a statement from your current or most recent dean of your school that states you can excel academically and havent had any trouble with the school. I have a 3.37 hopefully thats good enough to get me accepted!
