Florida Background Check for nursing school

Published

Hello, I'm applying for nursing school in Tampa Florida. I have tried to get answers from the local colleges there and no direct answer. I'm moving from Missouri to Florida. I have a few domestic violence charges that were dismissed because of a crazy boyfriend lies. I also went through a diversion program here for my son in which I was charged with a felony. The State dropped the charges but the police dept didn't. It has now been dismissed due to completing family thereapy. Overall, just need to know what they(the school and clincal sites) look at to determine if I will be able to participate in the program. Again, I'm moving from Missouri and these unanswered questions is delaying me. Any help would be appreciated. I will have documentation that I completed my diversion program for my son who now lives in Florida. I just don't want to give up my life here and not get into nursing school because of the requirements for the background check. I have searched school sites and nothing is direct.

If anyone has attended HCCFL, can you tell me what they disqualify you based on the background check? Or any school in the state of Florida? I was told to contact the BON but they don't control what nursing school background checks, just licensing. I have checked forums and no answers.

I found this on FL Board of Nursing.. under requirements there is a part that says " applicants with a criminal history" I really think that it's case by case. ... most nursing schools background check because they will have you with patients at clinicals and they have to protect them.. some schools say anything more than a minor traffic offense won't be accepted .... and just keep in mind that even if you get through the school, and the state will license you,you will still have to be background checked at your future employers. I hope it all works out for you .

What was your outcome? I am kind of going through the same thing?
