To the new grad ADN nurses...

Nurses New Nurse

If you want to go for your BSN, I have a question for you. Are you going to start taking your BSN pre reqs. right away, or are you taking some time off? I am debating if I should just get it all over with asap, or not. I have 8 more classes to take before I can apply to an RN to BSN program. I am so exhausted from school, but I am also afraid that I won't feel like continuing if I take a year or so off.

Isnt University of Phoenix really expensive? Do you know how much tuition is? This is this one school online Indiana Wesleyan that is 15thou for Rn to BSN. Is Phoenix more expensive?

*** The least expensive RN to BSN program I have found is University of Wyoming. About $7,000. If you are looking for a program with no pre-req's check out Nova South Eastern in Florida.

TT is $6,000 for the 2 semesters and the prereqs are a little less than UTT. I plan on going there as soon as I get my pre req's done I have looked at literally EVERY RN-BSN and RN-MSN program to find one that has decent mount of pre req's (not too many but enough) and doesn't cost an arm and a leg since I will be paying for tuition, and also online due to working full time. I have talked to several nurses that work full time and complete the RN-MSN from TT with no problems, yes it's tough but any master's program is going to be and the RN-BSN program is said to be "very doable" so thats why I chose TT.

I plan on starting back to scholl in Jan. of 08. The hospital where I will work, will pay for up to 18 credit hours after you work 6 months. besides I NEED a break!

I only have 2 classes to take before I can apply to and RN to MSN program (B.A. in History). If I start a new grad program mid-july, I'm not sure, but I will probably have to put off more classes for up to a year.

If I take the job that starts in September, I'm just gonna study, PASS Nclex, and take those 2 prereqs this summer.

Good luck! 8 classes is a lot, but shop around and see which ones you could do online even while working that 1st year. My 2 are statistics and public speaking, so no online courses!

P.S. Cal State Dominguez Hills supposedly has an online RN-BSN-MSN program. If you did an ADN, you probably have most of the prereqs taken care of.

I'm going to take a year off so I can focus on NCLEX, and then on orienting to my job. I know the nurse manager took a risk hiring a new grad into her very busy L & D unit, so I want to be sure I don't let her down!

Next year, I may start working part-time on my Master's. (I have a previous Bachelor's so I don't have to get another.) The hospital where I will be working will pay for classes, and is flexible with your schedule so you can attend classes. One of many bebefits to a magnet hospital!

Me too, I want to work part time starting this fall when my kids start back to school. I may try to pick up a class or two next spring. I'm so burnt out, I have to have a long rejuvenating break before I can go back.

I am going back right away. My biggest debate is which job to take.......I've been offered many. All pay for the BSN. I am going to do it, but take it slower this time while I work.

Hey there,

I just wanted to share my story. I had to have a full load in order to qualify for my scholarships so I took one pre req during ADN school per semester. I need 2 more pre reqs. I am taking a year off to get my feet wet at my new job. If I were in your position I would take one class each semester next year.... you can handle just one. Make it easy and online like Hist or Govt something simple.... I need Chem and Stats.... not looking forward to it.... !!! Good luck and CONGRATS!

Nope...I am taking a little time for myself. I am also looking at the University of Wyoming's RN to MSN online (B.S., Social Science), but I really want to be a good, experienced nurse before I try to prove that I am a master in the field, so I plan to take a few years off school and focus on nursing. I am planning to take the GRE this summer, after NCLEX. That way I am ready to go when I decide to apply.

I graduated May 10th. I took a few days off to CHILL. A few of us are working together on Suzanne's Plan. I only want to take the NCLEX once and I have a job waiting when I pass. Several instructors have suggested that we get used to our new jobs and the stress of being an actual RN before we jump back into the pressure cooker of working and going to school. I want the BSN, but I want to feel comfortable with being a RN first. My plan is to start work in August, work for a year and start the BSN program in August 2008. It works for me, but all of us are different and I wish all of you the very best on your new careers.

I graduate with my ADN in December. We have no nursing classes over the summer so I am taking American Government and Intro to Music online right now. After I graduate, I will take Spanish 1 in January and Spanish 2 in the summer while working full-time. That's all I have left. Then I'll start the online BSN at St. Petersburg College in the Fall of next year. At least that's the plan now. If I'm stressed at my new job, I'll postpone school until I'm comfortable. God I hate school!

Good luck to everyone with their plans. I have registered for 1 summer class, and I will take my other pre reqs 2 at the time. I plan to start my BSN year in August 2008. I just know myself, once I stop taking classes I will get to comfortable and change my mind.
