Hello all!

Well, I graduated in May, passed NCLEX and June, and as of today, I accepted my first RN position! It's going to be at a new surgery center, where I will be a periop RN, starting with GI cases only. I'm so excited! My dream is to one day become a circulating RN, so this should be my foot in the door!

Here's my question: Since I've been out of school for a while, I'd like to bone up on all things GI. I know I don't need to accumulate CE's yet, but if I do, will they be good when I actually need them?

Thanks for any help/advice!

p.s. Also thinking of joining the SGNA; any thoughts?:nurse:

Hello Lilme04,

Congratulations on your new position!

Check if your board of nursing has an expiration date on CEUs. New nurses are typically not required to submit proof of continuing education on their first license renewal. That means that the CEUs you collect now will be 2-3 years "old" by the time you need them for the board. Some boards require the CEUs to be obtained within the past year or something like that.

Congrats again and good luck!
