BCLS certification is absolutely MANDATORY to work as an RN in Canada.

I'm sure it is. Go get that BLS! :) Every job I've ever checked into required it.

It may depend on the employer - some seem to require it as a prerequisite to applying for a RN job, while others will provide BLS training once you're hired. ALSO NOTE that even if you spend the $$$ to get BLS certified yourself, your employer may require a different provider certification. I had Red Cross "professional lifesaver" (or whatever it's called) certification, but my employer requires American Heart Assn certification. As a result, I attended another fun filled 4 hour certification course. There are worse things in life!

Thanks for your kind suggestions. Is BCLS of 4 hour duration course? How I can apply for RN job through employmnt agencies or direct to hospitals and nursing homes.Plz suggest me.

Specializes in Psych, LTC, Acute Care.

All hospitals require it. My hospital is big so if you don't have it, you have to take it before you start on the floor doing orientation. They have classes every week. But I think you need to go ahead a take it somewhere because they may consider hiring someone else who has it already.

If we let our BLS expire, we can't work until it's good again! Seriously.

Never seen a place that didn't require it.
