I would really appreciate any/all input from nurses who have taken the Hesi exit exam and passed!

In Texas we cannot apply for state boards until we have passed this test..... and in dire straits..thanks MaresRN2B

I heard so much about the Hesi Exit exam that it drove me crazy.

I took it 3 weeks ago and passed it the first time with a score of 986.

I thought it was a decent exam, almost easier than I anticipated.

I did a lot of NCLEX questions to prepare for it but I especially used the Saunders book to review material.

now, over half of my class did not pass it and that was really hard for me knowing my friends had to study for another month to take it again.

Good luck everyone who has to take it soon.

Specializes in ob/gyn med /surg.

i was lucky my school made us take it but was not a requirement to graduate. i actually took it in 20 minutes and got a 698 or somehting like that.. lol.. i passed boards 1st try w/ 75 questions... good luck on your hesi ,keep us updated

I got a 1052. The only book I used to study was Saunders 3rd edition (blue cover) with the CD. Good luck!

It is so encourageing to hear how God has blessed each and every one of you all who has passed the Hesi... I have to take it on Dec. 20... and I have been studing so hard with the saunders and the ATI Book.... I am going to go in here on the 20th of this month and take the test and in JESUS name I will be sucessful ... I am a true believer and I have really been studing I will approach the test in a calm and confident manner and I will continue to be positive... May the good Lord bless each and every one of you all ..... Jean Buck

Our school told us that it was not a requirement to graduate at the beginning of the program but then changed it to a requirement. The first time I took it, I made a 1139. The school provided a 3 day NCLEX review and then wanted us to retake it to see our scores. I made a 1037 on the second try.:uhoh21: I have to admit that on the 2nd try, someone had on perfume or something on that was making my nose run like crazy and I had to keep getting up to go out and blow my nose and it really hurt my concentration.

I'll take boards late January or early February.

Good luck to you all

Im in Texas and I just took the exit Hesi last friday and I got 998. I went to a Hesi review course and did the practice cd twice that came with the brown Hesi review book. I actually found the test to be very easy and the percentage was the highest of all of my lecture tests this semester. Good luck to you!

Jean,

You write an inspirational qoute in remembering our Lord jesus in your thoughts. I too have taken the HESI twice and 825/798 later, I await the verdict from the school here in South Texas to attempt once again. I would love to hear of your outcome and perhaps recieve an email from you at [email protected] I hope you suceeded. My Paramedic husband says he is my best friend and no matter how I feel about failing my family and him, he is strong and continues to support me emotionally and in no way blames me for my "not" passing status. "Such is life and keep on trying", he states. "You fall and falter, pick yourself up, dust your butt and knees and try again. Life continues, with or without you". (thats his line) God Bless us all.

I had very good grades but that was of no use to me in the HESI. Sigh!

Sorry if I mispelled your name wrong. Here in chicago we have to take the hesi as well I haven't taken mines yet. I am presently in school.

Specializes in Pediatric critical care.

In Virginia we have to take the hesi as well. Ours is May 5th and the anxiety is steadly building.

I don't think the HESI exit exam was terribly difficult but I wouldn't recommend going into it blind either. I would say it focuses more on the nurse's role and critical thinking than straight book knowledge, but there are some very specific questions too. I used the Mosby NCLEX notecards starting about a month before, and then the weekend before the test I used the 3rd ed Saunders book and did the questions in each chapter to review since med-surg stuff felt like it was ages ago. I did fine and so did most of my class, but a lot of the students in another program at my school supposedly fail on the first attempt.
