Do you think this will be a problem?

I just got my RN license and I am going to start work in a few weeks. I have a scholarship through our local hospital, so I am going to work there; however, I have to interview still to decide what unit I'm going to work in. I am getting nervous because I have a vacation booked for the first week of September. When I booked the vacation I thought I would be starting work in May when I graduated, but the hospital decided not to let us start until we had passed the NCLEX. So I thought I would work all summer THEN take the vacation. Money is not an issue and I don't mind unpaid leave but I am worried they are going to give me a hard time about taking 9 days off so soon. WDYT? My dh thinks it's not abnormal to start a job with a vacation planned (esp in the summer) but he's in a different line of work, so I just don't know and I'm starting to get stressed about going to the interview and having to tell them this. I really can't get out of it (nor do I want to) as I've already paid for the airfare, and it's kind of a thank you to my family for being supportive while I was in nursing school and kind of neglecting them.

As long as you let them know right away it shouldn't be a problem. People know that long vacations are often long term planned. Just let them know as soon as possible.

You don't think I should bring it up during the interview? I don't want it to look like I wasn't being up front about it . . . and as much as I'm worried about it, chances aren't good that they wouldn't hire me - they paid for my last year of school so I am obligated to work there for a year. But I am worried about not getting into the unit that I want!

At my first interview, the nrs mgr asked me, "If I hire you when could you start?". At that time you could tell them of your vacation plans.

This would be a great time to let them know of your vacation plans. Maybe explain that you had hoped to be working for them months ago and that you want to be up front and honest with them about your vacation plans to avoid conflicts with future scheduling. Your honesty would reflect well on your character.
